  • This was a blast from the past! I never owned one, but a good friend from school did. He lived in a close, so traffic was minimal and we could play in the road. We never used the steering post, but fired it up - and nobody in the early 1970's got into a tizz about schoolkids playing about with matches or methylated spirits - and just let it go. Great fun!

This shows just how good Mamod toys were when built originally.
  • Great restoration, a reminder of my happy childhood, we had some properly dangerous toys to play with back then, but it taught us respect for things that, if not handled correctly could bite you back!.

I love watching miniature engines and motors being restored and working. It`s a secret passion of mine.
  • My Godfather had a collection of steam powered toys he started collecting when he was a kid in the 1940's. He never stopped adding to his collection. I will have to check but, I think this is the exact model steam roller that he had. It brings back great memories, Thanks!

This could not have been an affordable toy for most kids (or adults) back then. Very nice restoration!

Another fantastic restoration: I love watching your restoration work .
  • Terrific work and what a cool little toy that could NEVER be sold to children today! Makes me miss the good old days when a kid could walk into a nickel and dime store and get a cap gun that shot off real little gunpowder caps or a dart board or a pressure pump water rocket or a chemistry set with real chemicals...glass test tubes and an alcohol lamp. When I was 10 years old, there used to be a mom and pop store in town called Green's where you could buy replacement chemicals, Estes rockets (the big "D" engines!), working steam engines and gasoline powered Cox piston engine airplanes and dragsters. Nobody got hurt, everyone was happy, nobody made pipe bombs from the innards of solid rocket motor cartridges etc...just good adventurous clean fun for curious kids! What happened to us? How did our society, in the name of keeping us safe, take all of the discovery, adventure and fun out of being a child? Electric motor planes...Velcro tipped darts and boards? No mini explosions...no smoke...no little piston engine noises etc...boring!
