Why I Really Quit Cruise Ships and Chose to Stay Home

Published 2024-08-11
Hey sailors,
As many of you know, I left my last cruise ship in November 2023 and haven't been back since. I believe I told you I was planning to stay at home for a while but I didn't tell you why so that is what I will discuss in this video, amongst other things.
Thank you so so so much for watching and always supporting me. You are the absolute best and I hope you're having the best week possible!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my grandmother while I was studying overseas for grad school, and I’m so grateful that my in laws paid for me to fly back to the funeral. Just know, like my grandmother was, she was probably so proud of you going out at living life experiencing the world. My grandmother was an avid traveler before she reached old age and pushed all of her grandkids to go experience life. ❤ Just remember you are an amazing person and I’m sure she cherished the fact that her granddaughter was experiencing the world.

Hooray, the scrap books are out! It is good you are home to help with your grandmother, for her and all of her other caregivers. Your guides, videos, and social media tips are also a great gift to the crew members about to earn their "ears". Looking forward to your future uploads.
  • I'm booked for the new Utopia in November. There are 14 of us vacationing in the Bahamas.I'm so excited. My prayers and thoughts to you and your family about your grandmother. I hope you get to cherish these days with your other grandmother. Thanks for sharing and always keeping it real ❤️🙏

I don’t think living the life you want can ever be a mistake. I regret not traveling more when I was younger. You cherish your memories and enjoy ed your Lufei experiences. Stay true to yourself 😎

Well being comes from pain and honesty. God bless you, Lucy.
  • At 73 years of age, I found that you can't plan your life for single day events such as Birthdays, Weddings, Graduations, and Funerals. I asked myself, "would it change the event either way if I was there or not"? Answer is a resounding NO, as the event is never about or for me. Me being there is only for SELF gratification. Live your life for YOU, as God forbid, it could end tomorrow.
  • Hi Lucy! My deepest condolences for the loss of your grandmother. I understand because I lost my mum 5 years ago due to cancer. Although I was was there it hurt so much that I never got over it and I just know it will be forever I enjoyed your video veryvmuch. Thank you so much! Please do make videos like that too as those make us feel closer to you. Have a nice day! Greetings from Portugal

Lucy, so sorry to hear about your grandmother’s passing. Sending my condolences to you and your family. It is so hard to be away from loved ones. Wishing you all the best!
  • My condolences on your loss, I wish you all the best on your current endeavor. I definitely understand perspective in regards to working on cruise ships my son is on his 11th contact, he’s currently working on Utopia of the seas and while he enjoys working on cruise ships it can be challenging. Lucy I miss your cruise ship vlogs and look forward to your eventual return😊😊
  • Hi Lucy, I've been watching your videos for a while, I used to work on cruise ships a lot as a violinist (classical), and was doing it for ten years but not full time like you! I really like your video background today, it has more depth. Also the mic sounds really good. Your videos remind me of memories I've had working on board, and especially today with the scrap books. It made me think of all the amazing places I've been and interesting experience had. Thanks!
  • @Honolulu-Blue
Thanks, Lucy, for the update on why you decided to leave the ships.
  • It's great that you can look back and appreciate all of the good times you had over the years, working on cruise ships!

No Lucy, thank YOU! My deepest and most sincere condolences to you and your family. Losing a grandmother is one of the most painful losses in life. When you got teary-eyed at her letter, I immediately got emotional too. My gran passed away 7 years ago now, and I always say, "She was my second mother." Yesterday I found one of her old dresses in my mom's wardrobe and I felt how (I imagine) you felt when opening that letter. But anyway, I'm thanking you Lucy, because in less than 2 weeks I will be embarking for my first contract and for the past week, I've been crumbling under the nerves of what I'm about to do, and watching this video, you've reminded me that I'm on the verge of doing something amazing, that not many people get to do. Suddenly, my nerves are gone and I'm now more excited than ever. Thank YOU, for this video...and for your channel as a whole. You've truly helped me get this far (honestly), watching your content for months to learn. Our grandmothers are very proud of where we are!
  • Thank you Lucy for a very insightful video. Sorry to hear that your grandmother died, I only knew one grandparent. I think that probably the cruise ship part of your life is over and the next stage is starting, whatever that will be. Wishing you all the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

So sorry to hear about your grandmom passing! It’s never easy when you lose someone so special in your life. I do hope you return to cruising someday as I truly believe it’s what you love doing. By the way, How are things going with your boyfriend? You had barely introduced us to him before you ended up leaving cruising…

Funny thing about scrapbooking... I've taken pictures on all of my cruises. I occasionally review them to see where I've been and what I did. They're not as organized as your scrapbooks and certainly nor as pretty, but they're valuable for telling a story in time. Perhaps they will be even more valuable as I get older.
