In today's bustling world, where we often equate hustle with success, comes a compelling counter-narrative that challenges our modern paradigms. Dive deep with us into the ancient Eastern philosophy of Wu Wei - the art of effortless action. Discover how, paradoxically, doing less can sometimes lead to achieving more.

In this video:
šŸŒ€ Unearth the historical roots of 'Wu Wei' in Daoism and its resonances in Zen Buddhism.
šŸŒŠ Embrace the wisdom of Lao Tzu as we explore the water metaphor, revealing lessons in adaptability and resilience.
šŸ§  Traverse the bridges between ancient philosophy and modern psychology, spotlighting the 'flow state' as described by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.
šŸ¢ Journey across varied domains, from business breakthroughs to iconic art, witnessing firsthand the power of 'non-action'.
šŸŒ Reflect upon society's relentless drumbeat for action and how it sometimes clashes with our well-being.

4:26 Unraveling the Threads of Wu Wei

  • I am 72 years old, and I know when you try to force yourself upon life itā€™s hard. You need to relax and let things happen and everything will come to you. God will provide

This is not about non action, but right action, optimal balance between action and rest. It is not about "not trying", but knowing when to stop, when to retreat. Water can be brutal, forceful, as in Tsunamis and major floods.
  • I love this video essay on Wu Wei so much. I will listen to this many more times. 'Nature does not rush yet it always achieves everything it needs.' šŸ™

Both action and non action are extremely valuable, true wisdom is knowing when to exercise them

I have never believed in hitting your head against a brick wall. Just go around, climb over, dig under, or sit and admire the bricks. It's a brick wall it is there for a reason. You don't have to be there. The art of side stepping is my biggest asset.

The most prolific musicians and artists Iā€™ve ever known were the calmest and most serene individuals Iā€™ve ever met. I initially found this paradoxical and slowly realized it was precisely why they got so much accomplished. For those curious, I highly recommend Manly P. Hallā€™s ā€œIntensity without Tensionā€ lectures that can be found on YouTube. PS: this video is phenomenal and I have listened to it 7 times. I am reevaluating my approach to life and this is the soundtrack.

Oddly enough the less I do the more I have. Time is way more valuable than money ā¤šŸ˜®

I absolutely loved this reflection of eastern beliefs vs western culture and the metaphor of the river and water that constantly flows, even if obstructed. This has been a big learning for me to let go of the doing and surrendering. My doing nature, wasnā€™t comfortable with this. Since I started letting go, my life has brought me amazing connections and opportunities that I am so overwhelmed and grateful to receive. I also loved Amirā€™s soothing voice.

I've been practicing this for years when I create my art without even noticing... I just love the calmness that comes with it.ā¤

I have been following this for last 35 years and life has been a blessing. Keep it coming.

Thank you for this! 34 years attempting to follow the path of least resistance, this was a wonderful reminder.

Iā€™ve subconsciously been aware of this philosophy but never practice it. In fact I told someone recently ā€œStop donig and just be. The doing will take care of itselfā€ Fascinating. Now that Iā€™m consciously aware of it maybe Iā€™ll start practicing it. Thanks.

My mother was like this (referring to her as Yoda). And I'm a lot like my mother. On the other hand my father was just the opposite. And I come to this conclusion at a young age not to act so much like my father but to embrace my mothers balance being āš–ļøā˜ŗļø

Talk about without effortless and being in the flow, I nearly cried yesterday as I asked Google to find me my cottage. I was lead to a site and the first picture was my cottage. It is advertised as a room to rent in the 2 bedroom cottage, but I donā€™t care, ask and ye shall be given. But thereā€™s more! 2 weeks prior to this amazing find I drew the interior of the cottage I wanted, I put everything in it and the layout I wanted. And every night I walked through it, room to room and envisaged me in it. The one I found Itā€™s not identical but so close. Just below me away. Thank you for sharing this amazing video.

This resonated with me so deeply as this is EXACTLY where I Am in my life. I understand Masters Lao Tzu and Bruce Lee on a much deeper level, "Be Like Water". Such wisdom, Wu Wei. Thank you for this video. This is timeless.
  • @harishaneef26
That perfect flow can only be achieved when one acknowledges that there is a greater grander will at play , above and beyond our own free will. Only with this realization can we bring ourselves to respect and align ourselves with " the flow " rather than force or attempt to take control of the flow.
