I believe that SMLE stands for Short Magazine Lee Enfield.

That No1 Mark 3 is my favorite of the .303 series. " cut my teeth as a teen" ,so to speak, with one both sporterized and origional over many decades it has been a favorite since the mid 1960s. I still have a near mint No1 Mark 3 to this day. Enjoy this review thanks SARGE.

Being manufactured at Lithgow, it is an Australian rifle. Australia kept the SMLE until they adopted the FN FAL aka the L1A1.India also never adopted the Nr 4 Mk1 or Mk2. In fact the Ishapore Arsenal even built the 2A1 version up into the late 60s to supplement the FN. The 2A1 was chambered for the 7.62x51 NATO round. They were not converted Nr1 Mk3, but were actually manufactured in the NATO round. In WW1, the French said that the Germans brought a hunting rifle to the war, the Americans brought a target rifle, and the British brought a battle rifle.
  • I have 11 of them. One is a Savage. The nicest ones were the Long Branch Models. They were made post war into the 50's. To avoid rimlock just push them down hard the design of the mag will arrange them properly. The key is to get the back of the cartridge down and they naturally overlap the correct way. Factory loaded 5 round clips are arranged center one on top and left and right of that underneath so technically rimlocked but when you charge the mag they orient the correct way. Rambling sorry.

They make great motorcycles too, oldest manufacturer in the world. The motorcycle division motto is "Built like a gun".

Enfields are my favorite surplus bolt actions.👍👍 Love the 10 rd mag and cock on closing bolt.
  • I've always been fond of this particular rifle. No disrespect to the greatest battle implement ever devised, though...

I have always felt the SMLE .303 in all variants was the best combat bolt action ever fielded.

My Dad bought one in 1969 for 15 dollars,it was made in 1917 ..

I bought a brand spanking new (still in the cosmo) 1941 Lithgow S.M.L.E. in the 90's for $250.00 !!! P. S....that Pakistani .303 IS corrosive and the propellant looks like case long pieces of SPAGHETTI !!!!
  • Wondering if you just want plinking ammo can you reload these with 123 grain AK bullets?
  • @obi1kahnobee549
Impossible to get rim lock with military ammunition the rims had a taper to prevent this. Your slings are on backwards.
  • Lmao 😂always busting some ones balls! 🗣️ DONT TUCH THAT 🤣 I think you need to rename your channel HEY IM GONNA SCREAM AND COMPLAIN ! 😂
