This follows the sudden move by current US president Biden to step aside from the presidential race following concerns within the Democratic party and its donors that he would be unable to defeat Republican Presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump.
Biden, who intends to serve out the remainder of his term in office has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take on Trump and encouraged his party to unite behind her.
