Learn how to do Reverse Bay Parking using the 45 Degree Method.

In this short video we will show you how to do bay parking as simply as possible and also how to correct the parking if it goes wrong and not between the lines. This is one of the 4 practical driving test manoeuvres.

The aim of this Manoeuvre is to reverse between the lines safely using very slow car control and effective all-round observations. If you don’t get it in the lines don’t worry you are aloud to move it backwards and forwards to re adjust it into the bay. It’s a good idea if another car or a pedestrian comes towards you from anywhere to stop and work out If its safe to carry on. Don’t forget once you have worked out what they are doing to recheck everywhere else again before continuing.

This Bay Park Manoeuvre is normally done at the beginning or the end of the driving test at the test centre. If you don’t end up inside the lines of the bay it could be fail, so don’t forget to re adjust it if you realise.

This is THE video that made me go from absolutely dreading reverse parking to actually PREFERRING it in real life. I just passed my driving test, by the way! I learned sooo much from these Think Driving School videos. I now always look out for "Bob and Tom" haha. Brilliant!

The trick of looking at the line below the mirror is great, I didn't know how to have a point of reference

Thank you! It was always my weakest part parking like this! This video was so helpful. Because no ever told me how to do proper way. Most people would say so simple! So a big thank you! No more panic attacks 😃
  • Passed my test in dec 2016 at 34 weeks pregnant. Didnt drive much after that. My instructors never taught me how to bay park, because the test centre that i used don't have parking bays so they just never bothered. Upon returning to work, i have been using your videos on bay parking and learnt so much.I start work at 7am,but i get there at 6 am and use your videos to practice my reverse parking. This morning i did all my reverse parking in one go, without having to do more than one correction. It really boosted my confidence. Thank you. Will be using your videos again tomorrow morning and until i feel 100% confident in reversing between two cars.

This video is excellent. Thank you for including all the reference points, wheel positions, car paths and corrections. This is the most helpful reverse bay parking video I've seen.

When I began to learn how to do bay parking nearly two years ago, I searched videos of this method because most drivers used this one in my country. But then most videos taught 90 degree aka 3 line method; very few taught 45 degree method. With limited sources of this method I finally could do it and always used it. But then I thought I needed to learn 3 line method as well and began to practice it. I found that the traditional 3 line method had additional advantage, not only for parking, but also for reversing around a corner. A few months ago, I got bored in using 45 degree, especially when there was only 1 car next to my car. Besides, I just intentionally want to show people a different method they probably have never known or used before. I found the traditional 3 line method was fun to use, because it gave me more time for swinging in reverse. However, it depends on situation to determine which method I will use : - if traffic behind me is quiet, I will use the traditional method - in a busy traffic, I will use 45 degree method Imo, every driver should learn both methods so they will be prepared to deal with situations in which one method is more suitable than the other one and vice versa.

This is the best and quickest method on reverse parking and the crazy thing is before my test the instructor gave me a warm up before going to dmv then she told me "Forget the counting two spaces then reverse method and try this." I looked at her crazy and she laughed so she showed me this method and i got it first try,she laughed again and said "See?!" I then was going to ask her if she wanted to go out sometime because she was a hottie but as she took out her notebook i saw a wedding ring and was like this 🙁 but i passed my test doing this method.
  • @JaiSaf
Thanks for this video. Simple and easy to understand.
  • @jay_ta708
i love this method, well explained! Ty!
  • Oh, I remembered this method was actually what I learned and used to do in Japan. In these days I was practicing again but was influenced too much by driving videos from US and forgot the first slight turn before backing up, and I was wondering why my rear tires went too far away from the spot I aimed at.
  • @_M_D_M_
Best part of this technique is how small a distance you will move away from desired parking place before parking. Good.
  • @Abebebelow
This is one of the best bay parking technique. Thank you very much for your help.
  • @mooninsignal
I suffered so much with the 90° method because I found it too confusing and my instructor didn't want to teach me the 45° because he said it was harder, but I found it easier. Thanks a lot for your video!! Now I easily park in reverse!!! :)
