DO THIS TEST if you’ve been doing forward head posture exercises but your neck hump just doesn’t seem to be improving… a deep spinal extensor muscle test. If you have tight deep spinal extensors in the upper back and neck area and you don’t stretch them, these muscles will constantly pull the back of your head down and you’ll never be able to correct poor posture. So, in this video I show you both how to test these important muscles and how to stretch them effectively.

HOW TO FIX FORWARD HEAD POSTURE
Eccentric contraction stretches are the best way to stretch tight deep spinal extensor muscles. This involves lightly resisted stretching of the muscles at the back of the neck and upper back. This can be done against a wall or even lying face up. The great thing about this posture exercise is that you can feel how much you need to do it. If it really pulls in your upper back when you do it then this is a big part of bad neck posture… but as it improves that pulling sensation will subside.

Underwent a mostly successful 12 hr spinal surgery in 2006 to remove a massive tumor from c3 to t4 and rebuild my damaged spine. Was an apendynoma with a syrinx above and below. Fast forward to the end of 2022, im still working and at times straggling to keep proper posture and alignment. I've gotta say, your videos offer great tips that I try in between my regular chiro and massage visits. Thank you Sir 👍
  • Doing neck Posture exercises for a week now. I didn't even think my posture was really bad or something. But! Neck and shoulder stiffness which i always have are suddenly gone! My head feels much clearer! And its doing something with my confidence as well!! I never expected these kind or results with such simple exercises. Definitely recommend!

A big problem is modern car seats. Many, including my own, have headrests that force people's necks into that terrible postural position.
  • If this stretch is related to the extensor muscles, then part of my tinnitus is also related to it. This video has been most helpful. Thank you.

Wow! I could hardly move my head down. Thank you for this! After doing the exercise for a bit, it felt really good.

This felt good. I felt my upper back crunched up
  • What does it mean if you only feel a lot of pain in the SCM when you do that test? I didn't feel any pulling in my upper back or back of my neck. My anterior neck felt very painful.

I'm a foreigner. Could you please add English subtitles? It is very unfortunate that Google Translate is not perfect.
