Most Common Cause of Inner Shoulder Blade Pain

Published 2024-06-26
In this video I show you what the most common cause of inner shoulder blade pain is. Many patients complain about inner shoulder blade pain and receive treatment in that area to no avail. I learned a long time ago that the lower cervical spine is the major source of inner shoulder blade pain so I started to perform more cervical traction and then we started to see results and relief of shoulder blade pain.
👉Intervertebral disc injuries and lower cervical nerve root compression is always on the back of my mind when people have shoulder blade pain here.
👉A simple way to find out if your inner shoulder blade pain is coming from your neck or from the muscles around your shoulder blade is to tilt the head back, rotate it to the affected side and tilt it to the same side. If the shoulder blade pain increases, then it is likely coming from your neck.
👉This should be followed up with deep tendon reflex testing, sensation testing, manual muscle testing and the performing the cervical distraction test.

  • Thanks for the info! Is it possible for this neck pain to also produce pain in elbow/forearm and a little numbness to hand too? Thank you!!
  • @Paul-getsit
That was awesome, thank you so much. I've had pain on and off in that area for a while.

  • I am having exactly the same pain at the same place. And it has started after running to 10km. At first I got stress in my neck and now I am having pain near my left inner shoulder. Do you have a solution for this ? Any exercises?

I fractured C6 in 1995 and since then I've suffered pain in that exact area on the same side you're using as an example, too. When it's really flared up it causes the other side to hurt as well. They've tried all kinds of steroid injections over the years and it's barely noticeable and always comes back.

I am so glad that I found your channel. I used to follow a different physical therapy channel that was excellent but one of the members of the team was replaced with someone who sounds like Mickey Mouse and I can't bear listening to him.
