Is Electric Cooking at Camp Worth Trying?

Published 2024-06-05
Can you actually use an electric cooking system out on the trail and is it even worth it? We test out the Stoke Voltaics Nomad Cook System to see if it is a valid option for cooking when overlanding, camping, or off-roading.

This could definitely be a good solution for some people, especially for safely cooking inside a confined space (awesome). Though I must confess I did get a bit of a chuckle out of: "Any time you're trying to save some weight..." while we're looking at a 22.5 lb power station vs. a 1 lb propane bottle. 🙂 One point that was missed is that propane works to like -40°F but the Bluetti's won't deliver power below about +32°F - so this specific setup would not work for winter camping for probably most folks. Though having an inverter in your vehicle and having either a dual battery system, or letting the vehicle run while cooking, would be an alternate solution for cold weather cooking with this system.

I've had an induction. cooktop in my rigs going on 7 years now - so I did not have to have any gas because you always need electricity - just build a more robust electrical system. Love it... This looks like a toy considering the right amount of power that my 1600 watt cooktop has. Your system could barely fry a wiener!  🤡U could bet that system OR Put your Big Boy Pants on and get a Proper cooktop.

I’d like it if you could use a variety of pot & pans rather than only theirs. I think an induction 12v system would be the bomb.

Electric is great until the propane runs out. :)
