In this episode, we explore the fascinating spiritual and philosophical teachings of the non-canonical Gospel of Philip. Often termed a "gnostic" text, this incredible ancient document contains some truly interesting ideas, and a very controversial and famous account of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

Disappointed that this was not an announcement that you are starting your own religion, but another informative video will do, I suppose.

Nothing eclipses Thomas: “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” - Gospel of Thomas

I always feel a lot of these " Gnostic " , non-canonical gospels sound very eastern in their spirituality and teachings. Where standard Christianty is very similar to Judaism and Islam, these works sound in a lot of ways like Hinduism and Buddhism. There is lots of talk about the nature of reality, how you can find God in yourself and how everything is connected some how. Its very interesting.

I love the noncanonical texts, I find them really interesting. Please continue to do them, thank you! 😊

i had a near death experience and god directed me to the gospels such as this. i focus solely on building an understanding of christs teachings. that is what freed me.. however i have to live out my physical life now til i go back home again. only here to help revive his teachings when he comes back hopefully in 2030.. just a weird feeling..

Thanks for your work. Since I was a little boy something seemed off to me with the church, but I still felt some kind of connection to it. I never really got into the christian faith, even when I invested more time and resources studying it. I stumbled upon you work by ‚pure chance‘ and without looking for something like it. Your Videos and the videos of the channels you recommend finally filled that gap for me and explained why I was not getting into christianity. Even if I am not a student of theology, I think I have to read, study and translate some textes by myself to really find what I am ‚lookin for‘. You provided a irreplaceable starting point. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sorry for my rough English, but I think you get what I am trying to say. Your song isthmus filled a gap in my playlist as well.
  • I’m struck by how similar this believe system is to religions around India. The idea that we are stuck here in this suffering and need to obtain certain knowledge to escape and rejoin our spirit with the spiritual realm.

Hey brother, been listening to your videos for a while now, just wanted to personally thank you for making these videos. Theyve made me look at life in a whole new perspective

Really grateful for these videos and the insight into these different scriptures. Sometimes I think the Jainism parable of the elephant with the blind individuals is true; that all religions all make some good progress in their own way of uncovering the divine and how one should act to uncover it for one's self. I would love to see more unity between religions and also those who don't know or are undecided! Great work.

This is my favourite channel on youtube. Your knowledge and storytelling is admirable.

Your serious scholarship and presentation of very difficult ancient texts is appreciated. You remind me of the religious scholar Huston Smith. He, like you, possessed the rare ability to explain complex concepts and ideas with clarity and ease. His book, World Religions still ranks among the best works on comparative religions available even though it was written in the 1950’s I believe. Your videos will stand the test of time too. Thank you for tremendous effort you put into your work.

I loved the song 'Isthmus'. And this video was great, I also think it's very plausible that Mary had a very special role in her life with Jesus that was overlook or hidden through orthodoxy.

Thank you for your great video Filip ! Your video always give me an inspiration and reflexion on those fascinating textes. I want to mention something interesting between orthodox christianity and gospel of Phillip. On the gate of Agiou Pavlou Monastery of Mont Athos there is a phrase: if you die before your death, you will never die with your death. It's a teaching closed to the word you mentioned in gospel of Philip, and this orthodox teaching is surely from Isaac of Nineveh. And also from the teaching of this father of church, we could find the word like 'the light of the future world is only for the one who has already seen it before his death' (I forget the original word, but something similar). So maybe we could find a line between which we call gnosticism and the orthodox teaching, there may be some base and common teaching before the seperation between orthodox and gnosticism. And for the three Maria, I suggest that there may be a game of word. In gospel of Philip we could find the game of word about the name Jesus Nazareth Christ. Maybe for the three Maria and the relationship between them and Jesus, the most important sense for the collector of this non-canon gospel is the sense of name. The name Maria should represent something important in this non-canon cosmology, I guess its meanning 'get down into the sea' or 'the sea of the tear', as the explain of the name Miriam the sister of Moses by Rashi. It could explain the reason about the importance of the name Maria, and connect to the gnostic cosmology, that the pure spouce of Christ, the Wisdom, is under the Yam Sof, separed from the supreme world, and the Wisdom is also the lost pearl must be found. By this way, the person Maria is not such important, but the person named Maria is important, and around Christ there must be a Maria. Thank you for your attention !

It's interesting that this gospel was one of the first texts that explicitly talk about the Trinity, back at the start of the second century AD, although the idea of the Trinity presented here is quite different from the usual one, since the Holy Spirit is described as a feminine entity

The bribal chamber is propably refering to the union with god as is deschribed in the song of songs and mentioned by several mystics as the ultimate experience which is a product of long preparation and meditation. It is a common theme among christian mystics who deschribe it as so intense that leaves you with a comedown and a longing to experience it again that resembles pain.
  • Is it really that weird that an early Christian group is using the Bridal Chamber as an analogy for their theology? Modern Christians believe that Jesus literally married humanity through the Church.

Didn’t know you made music and I’ve been watching your vids for a couple years now. That new single is really good. Reminds me of what my friends and I would put on when we did shrooms. Good production too btw. Everything was well balanced but had plenty of dynamics.

Love your videos, I'm gradually going through so many of them. One certitude exists in life, one should questions everything and believe slowly.

Thank you Filip, and I do like the music. You are a man of many talents.
