It's interesting for me, how many people think that the police car was really close in my cycling clip. It wasn't! It just proves just how easily distances can be distorted when using a 360 camera. The road in question is wide enough for two vehicles side-by-side in a queueing situation like at the pedestrian crossing. For me, the only thing the driver of the police vehicle should've done differently would have been not to overtake as I was passing the car waiting at the junction on the left. The rest of it was totally fine! I will do a video very soon, showing the difference between distances seen on 360 footage compared to real life. Keep safe everyone!
  • That traffic light junction in clip three was an absolute mare. Well done your student.

Good to see Ashleys remarkable ability to narrate videos using only facial expressions in the 2nd clip 👍

Oh man I wish everyone on the road had your mindset when it comes to people using bicycles. Your comments to Becky were spot on.
  • It's scary the amount of times i've seen people reverse in car parks and not do any observations at all, more actions need to be taken against these people and the red light jumpers

I'm not sure if it's because I only passed 2 years ago, but when I see a learner, I cheer them on! I remember the pressure I felt when I was in their position. No need for more of it. And I even drive a BMW!

As bad as that junction is in clip 3, your student handled that brilliantly. Top notch 👍 It is also a good example of the two car rule in a junction. The junction could’ve cleared a lot sooner if the last car had held back
  • 12:27 You're better than that comment, Ashley. I've never heard a cycling organization or a cycle campaigner say that cyclists don't jump red lights. I can't even remember seeing some rando in a comments section online suggest cyclist never jump red lights. What I have heard is that (camera) studies don't show any significant difference between red light running by cyclists vs motorists. In my opinion, this doesn't tell the whole story as cyclists seem to jump at a different point in the sequence to motorists.

The 'I've seen a learner car' applies to cycling as well. Many times I've been out riding and someone has nearly pulled out into oncoming cars from the other direction because they're lazer focused on pulling out ahead of me!
  • you are probably the best driving instructor ive seen on any social media platform, fantastic work mate, clear instructions and help man, absolutely fab
  • @BeanieBiker
Love the Robert DeNeiro impression at 1:13, spot on. Great clips as always Ash
  • @Proudtyke
Many thanks Ashley. Watching your videos has made me a much better driver. They should give you a tv series, it would help so many more people. Never saw you play but your dad was a terrific player.

01:08: It was clear the emerging driver had not looked to gauge traffic and was not going to yield. I would have been slowing at this point, or even a bit earlier to keep potential conflicts down at the upcoming intersection. I get the impression that a lot of folks are operating at their maximum, and it's up to folks who are able to project to keep the roads safe.

2:50, this is a really good clip to show because for every junction on our roads that is clear and obvious what to do, there are a lot more that are ambiguous like this one. [what do we do now?… well it depends….]
  • 11:24 The taxi driver didn't look, but I think the hazard light flash was a "Thank you" acknowledgement for a helpful and timely horn beep.
  • @R04drunner1
At 1:13 I laughed out loud at the look on your face Ashley. Said it all. No issues with your acceleration beforehand by the way and I saw how you drove to assert priority in a way that gave the BMW driver plenty of room to correct his wide line . Sadly the genius in the Beemer didn't catch on, so once you saw the problem you stopped safely even though you had right of way. A great example of trying to make progress but showing restraint!
  • Some cyclists do jump red lights, unfortunately. Some of us try to set an example and value our safety. Should be interesting to see what Ash thinks of the cyclists in NY. Videos I have seen there of them - many seem crazy with the lights and ped crossings. Seems to be culture that let's them get away with it there, police seem to turn a blind eye too. As a ped there you are not allowed to jay walk but even on official crossings and on green you must look out for cyclists running lights. It's funny how each country has an idea of what is acceptable and will tolerate. Like the US, India or Vietnam, or the Netherlands.

"That Taxi shouldn't be turning around as it's a one way street!" Of course we all knew what he was going to do! 🤣🤣 Great educational and analytical entertainment.
