How Alex Lewis Is Doing Today | The Incredible Story of Quadruple Amputee Alex Lewis (Interview)

Published 2022-09-13
NOTE: The interview starts off in the first 10 minutes with some minor technical problems; the internet was not the most stable. However, just give it a few minutes as it does improve.

“I was told early on that with amputation 95% is mental and 5% is physical. If you get your head straight, the rest will follow.” - Alex Lewis

There are people in this world who just blow your socks off with their courage and strength despite the massive adversities they had to go through.

Alex Lewis, our guest in this interview, is one of those people.

Before Alex lost his limbs and his lips, he was—as he describes himself—just a regular guy, with a partner and a two-year-old son, who ran a restaurant and who was primarily a stay-at-home dad.

All this, however, changed in November 2013 when he fell ill.

Some of the Questions:

- What happened in November 2013 when you thought you only had a common cold? What did those days seem like and when did you know something was not right?
- Is there something you would say to the “old you” (the one with limbs) that you feel could have helped you to live a better life?
- I read somewhere that you really liked the book Man's Search for Meaning by Víctor Frankl. What parts of the book spoke to you the most?

What You Will Learn from this Episode:

- When and why Alex decided to fight and not remain a victim
- How he has learned to accept the changes that had happened to his body and to feel okay with them
- Why Alex received a personal invitation from Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay

  • Just...wow. What a remarkable human being. A hero and a legend. You are an inspiration, Alex. Thank you for sharing your story.
  • My late husband was in an electrical accident and lost three limbs. His courage and Alex’s is so inspirational. Alex, you are a wonderful example to your son.
  • For mini chance Alex sees it: You're inspirating person, listening to you was great. I think your wife and everyone around you are "angels" (not really in religion sense). Your mindset is very inspirating. Really. Thank you for that. I through that I can't watch you really because my phobic reaction about amputations and prostetic limbs, I have just panic attack, from time to time I'm trying to be better, trying to not have this reaction. Vetenarian for my pet didn't had one small fingertip, and I couldn't see anything else, I froze and then I was ashamed that I reacted badly, that I was not polite... After that I just can't say amputation or prostetic even, I have so vivid fantasy, I see it in my eyes in this moment... No organ surgery has that impact for me... After all people have first sense vision, then anything else. I apology for it. It is really interesting that I can see you, watch you, maybe because you look so content in your body. I really listened and then with corner of my eye watched, then I was ok, no phobic reaction. You are diferent, not without your limbs, with your vision, work for others, with your life for your son, with this good atmosphere around you. I really felt it.
  • Did he say his wife went back to work 48 hours after having baby? No shade, i'd really just wanted to know. Am I hearing him correctly.
