Discetomy vs. Laminotomy

What do you do about leg (radicular) pain if a transforaminal discectomy doesn't work because of lateral recess stenosis? In this video Dr. Tony Mork describes treating persistent leg pain after a transforaminal discectomy.

I am wondering why you didn't go ahead and do the laminotomy when you did the discectomy? I had a fusion, then 1 month later a laminotomy, which took care of my leg pain at the time.
  • I have done l4-l5 lamentomy and desectomy surgery but my genital and feet are still numb its now 18 days. Can you tell me what happen to me?

Wondering if the laminotomy relieved the redundant nerves at the L2-L3...those of which could cause havoc

1:36 It looks like the superior endplate of L4, not L5. And is it a foraminotomy that decompressed his exiting L4 root or the traversing L5, caused by his lateral recess stenosis? Can this procedure result in spinal instability, later on?

  • Dr. Tony Mork , hello there, my father was having unbearable pain for 1 day suddenly in his right hip, then suddenly the pain was better after some medication but immediately after that he felt numbness in his right leg last 2 fingers as well as on lower back of foot, also when a doctor seen him then he is nit having reflex in his calf muscle as well, its been a month now and we have gone through steroid medication as well but situation is same. So now doctor suggested laminectomy and discectomy immediately to prevent further damage. Should we be worried of surgery as doctor suggested it as minor surgery. The problem is with L5 S1
  • thanks for show the information, i am going for segury in the lavels L3 L4 L5 he's going use arthodesis posterior interbody technique including laminectomy and disectomy other than for decompression single interspace.becouse i have lote pain in my both legs and my lower back too .so i expected to everything is alright and recovery soon .the sergury take like 5 hours . that's is my concern right now .
