THIS STORY:

On June 21, 1920, Ruth Wanderer was shot dead by a raggedy dressed stranger in the foyer of her two-flat home at 4732 N. Campbell Ave. in Chicago. Ruth’s husband, Carl, explained that the couple was returning from a movie and was ambushed by a 'ragged stranger.' The hold-up man shot Ruth, killing her and her unborn child, while Carl pulled out a gun and killed the stranger.

At first, Carl was lauded as a hero. But the cops had their suspicions, even though Wanderer was a decorated veteran of World War I. The strangers gun belonged to Carl's relative. Ruth had taken a large sum of money out of the bank that very morning. And a young 17 year-old girl stated that she and Carl had gone on a few dates before the murders.

Finally Carl confessed, saying he was tired of his wife and wanted to go back into the Army. He was tried for both murders and was hung in 1921.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...

This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.

Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

  • Please show us a picture when the Ragged Stranger's stone is in place. The purchasing of a stone, along with other acts of kindness, makes me proud to be a part of the Gang. Bless you, Ron, for your respect and the dignity with which you speak of the dead.
  • @kkormanik
What a scoundrel! How sad for these young girls. Poor Ruth’s mom having to hold her during her death, and Ruth thinking of her baby. So sad.
  • I love the 1920s-1940s era's love the buildings. Clothes. Jewelry etc. Enjoyed the theater. Thank you all.
  • Very interesting story. Carl was a bad man. Killing 3, the raggedy man, his wife, and unborn child. Why didn't he just leave if he was so unhappy? I feel sorry for the innocent people that were murdered. Brittain and Ron did an awesome job on this vidio. Brittain has so much knowledge of historical facts.Hes amazing. The two of you make a good team.👍👍❤❤

God bless you Ron for buying the ragged stranger a headstone. You are truly one of a kind, and one of my favorite YouTubers. Awesome video and I’m looking forward to next Sunday night at 2100 hours!
  • Ron, you're forever the gentleman, buying the stranger a headstone. Thank you... Poor Ruth, what a horrible death, knowing your bsby had died. So sad..
  • I've never heard this story before but even if I had, you would tell the story better than anyone. Thanks for keeping us entertained and remembering the forgotten!!!

I’ve watched many of your videos. Many have touched my heart and I got teary . None of them touched me like this one. The way you told it…. I cried and I felt like I knew them all. I imagined holding my pregnant daughter as she died. I imagined the ragged stranger was dirty and hungry the day before but he had been prepaid and was able to pay for his shave and hair cut. He was desperate and probably had a good meal. He did what he did to survive but was unknowingly preparing for his own death. I imagined trying desperately to hold on to that wedding ring, and at last I imagined the nursery. How can one man cause so much devastation! You really took us back to that day. Thank you. You are an amazing story teller/person. I hope you know this. Thank you for ALL you do. 🕰 ❤️🔍
