Its the time of year to clean out the shallow well. I rebuilt the well pump in the process. Started stacking boulders for the second retaining wall

22 min and 28 sec of sanity in an insane world. What a pleasure to be there, if only in spirit.
  • The retaining wall is looking killer good. This world could use far more men like you!! Thanks for sharing.

Heath. You're my hero. You do everything for your family, as do I. With your filtration system, the need to clean the shallow well is just extra safety. You've built a GREAT life for your family. Love your videos. Love your family. God Bless You All.
  • Living in the northeast watching you build the stone walls leads me to wonder how all the stone houses and fences were built without heavy machinery

You reminded me of when our well was dug back in 1951, 35 feet deep with 95% naturally soft water that has never run dry while my uncles well two doors down was 200 feet deep and full of coal and Sulphur.
  • Hello from Seattle. The rocks look perfect. Don't be so picky! Everything you touch turns to gold! It's looks like perfection.
  • @b1g1lz
It might be handy to have a set of stairs made from railroad ties that goes up each of the grades straight out from the back door if the garden needs to be accessed easily. You could remove some rocks at those sections and repurpose them.

Next spring I would sow many plants such as creeping thyme etc. in seed trays. I would then (after the soil in the terraces has settled over the winter,) fill all the gaps between the stones and rocks with compost and plant the seedlings, keeping them well-watered for the first year. This will add to soil retention AND provide a beautiful vista from the house and "driveway".
  • Waving hello from Chicago! I've talked to so many people about your channel and the things you do. I've been following since 2020 and I just love how you say what you're going to do and then see it happen. You talked about the shop a long time and then the rock retaining wall and now here it is in progress and coming along nicely. I believe we're about the same age, but I just really admire you and Cedar. I look forward to you guys' vids every week.
  • Being a true plumber and Tradesmen the down in your voice says you probably are not going to be exorbitantly happy with the tankless hot water heater I have a piece of property a little bit down south that has an old shallow brickwell in it mine has a fairly easy Miller's water pump that was probably new in the late eighties it was really easy to rebuild but now I'm finding very hard to buy the parts so if your parts are readily available I would buy 10 or 12 of them just to keep around but I do enjoy your videos I was disabled by a work accident about 6 years ago and I am unable to go out and do everything I used to hunt fish camp work on my property this is what I remember my grandfather explaining when he had a heat stroke in his late 60s and he had to give up cutting the yard you said every time the guy came over to cut the yard and smell about made him cry you don't know until you know but I do enjoy the channel keep up the great work I love watching the interaction between you and your kids but especially seeing the interest that your boy is taking in this generation that's rare

Heath your energy is just amazing love the look of the whole place. You both are just doing a great job!

haha Bandit, right into the mud puddle. We all here wondered how you would get that tool back if you dropped it in the well. And we decided you need to invest in a fishing magnet. :) This is for Cedar. Look up the benefits of Milk thistle (Silybum marianum). That purple flower Heath showed in this video @ 18:19. You have a great variety of wild plants that are medicinal where you live.

I like how the Terrace is turning out reminds me of the house we lived at in Texas. It had terraces in the backyard. But instead of boulders, we hadd wood. Ties and one little section of it was a garden but it was different levels. There was 3 levels.

"David the good" has a video on how simple it is to start a food forest. You start with a fruit tree then under that tree you plant things like currant or black berries, maybe blue berries. Then in May you cam plant squash, watermelon, cantaloupe etc under there. Anything you like, if it grows in your area slap it in the ground around that tree. Then plant another fruit Tree 10 or 20 ft away and do the same thing with different berry bushes and other small fruit bushes as many times as you have land for. Soon they will branch out and join each other and start the food forest. Best time to plant a fruit tree is 5 years ago. Great job on the hillside.
  • That bumble bee at 18:47 was big! It appeared to be excited about the thistle pollen. Continued success on the wall.
  • @nekoDan
Retaining wall looks great. It would be neat to have some stairs going up along the right side so you could easily get to any of the terraces.
  • That back section, would be so pretty with a large grass spot, A large gazebo, A picnic table, grill, chairs. So close to the house and kitchen. LOVE all you have been doing there! I'm from Tennessee and would love to ring that bell !!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

9:07 looks like you’re getting a lot done with the nice weather Your water system is very nice. Amazing the pump pushes the water all the way up to the tanks. God bless
