I'd agree if I could afford the caliber of apartment she's living in. Cheap apartments are a completely different universe from costly apartments.

This works when you already have a lot of money, lol.
  • @masonm1495
Fun fact the same house she’s talking about is worth 2.7 million today
  • @Bitterswheat
Especially if you're single, the sheer emptiness and quietness of a large house must've been incredibly lonely and isolating
  • In her book one thing she said that while in therapy her therapist had asked about the home and she had said there was always, always something to be fixed. And that it was so big it made her feel lonely. I can’t imagine having a massive house, be responsible for everything and be alone. That sounds depressing.

She’s not wrong. People underestimate the amount of maintenance required on a home, especially older homes.
  • As a current home owner and former renter, I can say I would never wanna go back to renting for the fact of not having controls over my home.

She is not lying! I'm a first-time homeowner as of last year, I love that I did it for my kids as generational wealth but there's a lot of maintenance and upkeep that you have to pay for, and taxes and insurance is constantly going up

She mentioned in her book that there were people working on her house like the whole time she lived there. The contractors would fix something, but then they would "find something else" so it was like her house kept breaking. I think she was getting fucked over and they were scamming her. She was a very young adult without any family to give her advice, and due to her relationship with her mom, she was someone who was very easy to manipulate and take advantage of. I don't blame her for hating owning a home after going through that crap though

She is the kind of person who does not want to be bothered by finance and chores. She would rather pay up for rent and has less headache. If I were single, I would 100% live in an apartment too.

I agree. People doesnt realize that owning a house requires a lot of maintenance. And you need to pay much more than renting like taxes and maintenance
  • @scottwade3600
I live in a fairly cheap apartment, the trick is to know the company that you’re renting from and make sure it’s not a 300+ unit building… my building has 6 units. I over communicate like crazy… I have very few issues with my apartment outside of the parking situation. Even that got handled FAST
  • @leaf842
See but for the rest of us plebs, if something goes wrong in our apartment, rare is the management that’s there fixing it the next day! 😂
  • @lindsey.13
guys, she’s not saying that this is the better option. she’s simply saying that this is what works for her. it’s not that complicated

I friends with this married couple who bought a duplex condo, but decided that they want to sell it. The reason was they have no problem paying the mortgage, but the amount they need to pay for monthly maintenance alone is the same if they rent an apartment with the same facility and size. In the future, even if they fully paid the house, they still need to pay for maintenance each months, in their perspective, they spending significantly more money buying the house for no reason.
  • I did the same when I was younger. I was worried about the big cost of things that could go wrong so I rented an apartment for a few years and it was an enjoyable experience. Then when I was in a better job and place in my life I went back to home ownership. I know it wasn't the best financial choice to rent but the exchange to be more stress-free was worth it. My apartment was cheaper than my house costs. Some times it's just the right choice.

Dealing with maintenance for apartment complex is different at every location. I lived in a 1 bedroom $900 a month, and they took care of everything that went wrong. While a buddy of mine lived in a $1,800 1 bedroom and he complained about maintenance and office management being terrible. The higher doesn't guarantee better service. While the lower pay doesn't guarantee bad service. It's truly hit or miss in any pay range.

Context matters. This chick was living in a million dollar condo. It seems she likes being cater to. This is not the real world.

I agree with her, once I talked with my gf before breaking up, that it was a very good idea to live in a very good Apartment than a house, exactly because, anything happens you call maintenance, segurity guards, there are cameras constantly monitored, and if you have kids, they will grow up knowing these people, plus you’re always seeing people, neighbors etc.
