This one came across the scale about two year ago. I thought it was too cool to crush. If someone was needing parts this would make a grate parts van. The gentleman who scrapped this van said the motor was a good one but might be stuck now from sitting.

  • That is an awesome van. If I had the money I would buy it and restore it. I would drive that van everyday. That's definitely a good find. I hope someone buys it and saves it.

The van is still pretty much complete for its age a little tinkering with the motor and a new battery it would probably run

This is a 1974 Ford E-300 van. Not correct, this is a 1-ton (not 3/4 ton) van. No, Ford did not upfit it. Ford manufactures the chassis and the RV company does the upfit. We got the VIN, we win: E34 for E300 cargo van, G for 302 CID V8 with two-barrel, H for Lorain, OH assembly and the rest is the production sequence lining up with 1974 model year production. This is the last year of this style van as 1975 would bring a redesign to the E Series chassis. The Lorain, OH plant operated from 1958 to 2005. We got the tag, we can brag: 123 for 123" wheelbase, looks like "M" for Wimbledon White exterior paint, E343 for E350 cargo van, G for three speed Ford produced automatic transmission, 72 for 3.73:1 ratio, non-locking rear axle manufactured by Dana-Spicer, 7000 is the maximum GVWR of the vehicle, 1974 is the model year, and 86 is for Recreation as a sales code meaning that it went from the Ford assembly plant to an RV upfitter to be made into an RV or camper. The right-hand sticker on the bumper says, "Leisure Time Recreational Vehicles" and was likely the dealer that sold it at one time. Realistic was a Radio Shack brand.

Ford built the van, but it was sent out to an outside manufacturer for this type of camper conversion. Companies include Open Road, Contempo vans, Road Runner, and Santana. I have a AMT model kit of a Open Road Chevy van that I am in the process building.

Nice van at it's time. Do you have a good spare tire carrier like the one at 3:30 for the driver side rear door of a Gent Econoline 1991 or newer? I need one of these for my conversion van.
