This $80 glove "destroys dead skin"...

Publicado 2021-12-08
The Baiden Mitten makes some big claims: microdermabrasion, blackheads, large pores, acne, stretch marks, scars, detox... but does it work? I tried out this $70-90 cult favourite exfoliating glove against some $8 alternatives. Includes disgusting footage of dead skin rolling off, both life size and through a microscope.

Sorry the Australian dollar keeps fluctuating, so the price of this mitt is like that bitcoin joke... I should've stuck with $48.97 USD.

My parents are Turkish, and I’ve been using these since childhood. They’re not even a dollar in Turkey. I can’t believe ppl sell them for 80$. Wtaf?!?! “Kelebek” means butterfly btw. Don’t use them on your face tho. My mom does it but I would never. 😬
  • @ActuallyAnanya
I use the green "Italy" towels from Korea for physical body exfoliation and they're very cheap and quite effective! I'd love to hear your opinion on those, they seem to work the exact same way.
  • @nostenatirm
As a Turkish person I do exfoliate with these (we call them "kese") once or twice a month. I like Kelebek brand it's not that bad really. But those are too rough for the face and I'm so sorry you had to experience that first hand. There are actually some silk exfoliating mittens for the face but I prefer chemical exfoliation and I neved had the courage to try 😅😅

Favorite facial exfoliant cloth: microfiber cloths! The super fluffy ones are amazing at gently yet thoroughly removing makeup, dead skin and (when I get messy) paint from my hands. I don't bother with regular wash cloths anymore.
  • I'm always tempted by these things. My skin looks great for a few days, then my eczema flares up whenever I use them. Honestly for my face, ever since I started using lactic acid exfoliant, I just don't want to use a physical exfoliant. Also pleas do continue nerding out over dead skin - it's grotesquely fascinating.

I use the little green mitts that you can find in Korean bathhouses. Dirt cheap and when you're done with it you just throw it in the wash. My oldest ones are 5 years old and they still work. It's also wayyy cheaper than this. You can probably get 5 for the price of $8
  • I've being using this always, my grandma was torturing me every week in the turkish bath, lol. The fabric should be natural, cotton, linen, and have a relief, that's all. In order to remove the dead skin, first your skin needs be very humid - 20 min shower, sauna or bath, but just pure water, no soaps, cleanser, nothing prior to exfoliation. It is the first step, the glove should be dry. As it gets wet, just remove the excess of water. That's the tip - this way tou can remove 100 gr of dead skin, at least I do, but my skin is used to this and literally, needs it, so I know when I have to exfoliate. I do this every 4 weeks, so that a gross amount of dead skin can be removed, not every week as when I was a child. My grandma was saying, never do it on the face, you will strech your skin. My body skin has been always super soft and nice. Try this, girls, you won't regret it.

$80??!? whaaaaaaaat?!?! Morroco & Turkey have been using these for literal decades, those gloves shouldn't cost you more than £5 omg
  • @CieloSkin
I love your positivism: “I hope you like this slightly disgusting video” 😂😂 Cielo: yes, I also loved this slightly disgusting video from you Michelle 💙💙
  • @raraavis7782
80$??? I get the same dead skin rolls with my drugstore mitt and that thing was maybe 3 or 4 €. Best mechanical exfoliator for the face (imo) is mud masks. I let them dry, then wet them again and use the mud to gently scrub my face, before washing it all off. Not doing it very often anymore, though, since starting a Retinol. I used to crave the feeling of freshly scrubbed skin, but that's almost gone now.
  • Please try the korean exfoliating towels and the smooth sponges (they aren’t gritty at all!) they advertise as exfoliating in shein or yesstyle!
  • @SanSan-ng1kg
Find a piece of raw silk (not the satiny smooth kind), stitch it together into a glove, and watch the skin rolls fall off. It washes like a dream in a washing mashine. I got mine at a hammam in Istanbul (an amazing experience!), and it's lasted me for years. Make sure you dry it properly every time, of course.
  • @rubysresource
I have been really tempted to try an exfoliating cloth on my arms… definitely not an $80 one though! 😅
  • Oh wow, these are like $2 here! I hated it as a kid but I loooove it as an adult. It is so good on necks if you get ingrown hairs.
  • @masonzgoda1637
I would love to see you do a video on the popular Thayers Witch Hazel Toner. I used it for a while and loved how even it made my skin. But then the beauty community started saying it was bad and sensitizing and that even if it works on the front end it will make your skin worse in the long run. I would love to hear your thoughts!
  • @unicorn1655
Every Middle Eastern county uses these, they’re like 80 cents to a dollar, can’t believe someone has the audacity to charge 80 bucks
  • @ace.of.space.
I ordered a pack of the green "Italy" towels used in Korean spas and every other week or so it's skin roll time !
  • 80$ ?!!! In Morocco we have been using such gloves for ages and they don’t cost more than 2 or 3$….
  • Interesting topic. I use an exfoliating towel for my back, since I can’t reach, and gloves sometimes with a body wash. They are from ultra and works well. $80 is way too much.
  • @Eden-nn7dc
I absolutely love your videos, it isn't very often that I see skincare videos/reviews that rely on science rather than personal opinion. Just curious, would you be willing to make a video about skincare with rosacea? I keep searching and searching for scientific info but all I have found is a large questionnaire put out by a private company.
