Undoubtedly the most recognizable of all Helsinki attractions is the Suomenlinna fort, the vast defensive structure is toured by hundreds of thousands of visitors each year with the strong walls here seeing action throughout the centuries.
Religious buildings of note in Helsinki, of which there are many, include the Helsinki Catedral, the striking and well position Uspenski Cathedral, and the rock -cut Temppeliaukion, which, despite its efforts to be a house of worship, is most probably known for the throngs of tourist who arrive to take pictures of the amazing looking site.
Other things to do in Helsinki include visiting one of the many museums in the area.
Green spaces and places of natural beauty aren't hard to come by around the Helsinki area, Seurasaari Open-air Museum is a great stroll with historic granaries and farmhouses dotting the landscape, then there's both the Nuuksio National Park, with its vast forests and trails lending itself to some excellent hiking and horse trekking pastimes.
Closer sights closer to the visit worth visiting are Senate Square, widely used for public events, the Ferris Wheel, known for the sauna that makes its home in one of its gondolas and the Esplanadi, a sprawling part of the city with restaurants and bars.
