In this video, we check out the old Crandon Park Zoo, which existed from 1948 through 1980 near Key Biscayne. In 1980, it was relocated to the current Zoo Miami location in South Miami. A little over a decade later, the remaining parts of Crandon Park Zoo was turned into a garden. I explored the standing structures and gave a little bit of history on the place.

  • I grew up off Brickell in the 70’s and remember going to Crandon Park Zoo as a kid and riding the train. Thanks for posting the video. Brings back great memories.

Thanks for showing this. I went here alot when I was a kid. That big curved structure use to house the monkeys. Great memories. I always felt bad for the animals in those small cages.

Thank you for posting this. It brought back a lot of great memories of my Dad bringing me to the zoo in the 70's as a little kid. I recognize most of the structures. IIRC the structure with all of the graffiti was an aviary with different birds and enclosed with chain nets on either side so they would not fly away
  • Man growing up in the 70's and going to the zoo was the best. They had a park and ride on the outside. When you first go in they had the train and the peacocks. It had a smell. And seeing the crocodile pit brings back a lot of memories. The train tracks are still there.

That's a really great place up front for exercise up front & I bet it's going to be even better with a petting zoo there. I may be 41 but my highlight of the state fair is still the petting zoo. I'd love to live near a place like this. It might even encourage me to get out & exercise if I get the opportunity to pet various animals that are not my cats or my friends dog.

Where he hopped the fence is restricted but that’s just the back of the garden where mostly parked custodian vehicles and trash bins are held. The whole Garden it’s self is big and great for a bike riding and relaxing on the benches facing the small lakes. It all free just don’t feed animals and leave trash.
