Learn how to grow peaches from a seed. I share some tips for growing a peach tree from a pit effectively. Using cold stratification, germinating peach trees is a simple process and fun as well! In this video we discuss what you can expect when growing fruit trees from seed, genetic variation and how we can guarantee a fruit-producing tree.
The peach (Prunus persica) is a popular type of stone fruit mainly cultivated in dry, temperate climates with suitably cold winters. Native to China, the peach was evidently cultivated in ancient times in the Orient and eventually spread to become a popular fruit in Europe about 2000 years ago.
The lush, juicy fruits of the peach tree typically have white or yellow flesh and a mic of sweet and tangy flavours. Nectarines are actually a type of peach (the same species) although they are regarded as a different fruits in the commercial fruit trade.

  • My experience with rooting peaches is breaking the seed out the hard shell is unnecessary. I got tired of doing this way and dumped all the shells with the seed in them into my compost heap. Out of 50 stone pits thrown in, 48 tiny saplings sprouted. I started transplanting them into individual pots as they were sprouting up from the compost heap. Save some time and labor and let nature do her thang is my new way of growing.
  • Anyone watching from Africa??🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️ I'm in the year 2024 about to start an orchard with my inherited land
  • @garyblack8717
I accidentally did this when we lived in Birmingham. We had bought a box of Chilton Co peaches and composted the pits. Few years latter we had a tree LOADED with peaches each spring!

I've been freezing peaches and instead of feeding the squirrels a treat this year, I decided to keep the seeds. We have some delicious peaches here in TN and Georgia of course. So I've got my root starter and I'm going to try... we all need to be growing our own food like ten years ago!!

Just watched this video with my 5 year old because we had peaches today and I asked her if she wanted to try to grow a peach tree. Of course she said yes, so we're going to give it a try. Thank you for such an easy to follow video!

I'm in south Florida. You said at the beginning of the video that if it doesn't get cold for at least 45 days, it probably won't produce fruit. Peaches are my favorite fruit and south Florida is my favorite place to live. Hmmm. I'm going to try it anyway & see what happens. 🤣 Thank you for the valuable video!
  • @bluesbonsai6718

Cool Peach tree story. A old timer had big peach tree and for 3 years in a row the tree put out small tasteless peaches. So in early spring he went to the peach tree with a baseball bat and whacked the tree 10-15 times. That year the biggest juices peaches were put out by the tree. It's called "Shocking " your fruit tree...

  • I have started saving my plum and cherry and peach seeds like a geek ...but I plan on following the process of nutcracking the bigger container shells and then soil planting eventually.i find it cool that I can actually see life that I want to cultivate grow overtime ; from beginning process towards fruition ...I'm excited to start this undertaking

I was able to eat a nectarine from the store. Left the pit out for planting a few days later. Ice picked some holes around the bottom of a little gatorade bottle and one in the lid. Added peat and perlite. Cracked open the hard shell and dropped the seed in. Made sure it was covered with soil. Then sat it in a SouthEast facing window sill. Noticed roots on day 18 and it started sprouting day 20 :)
  • you have produced a very impressive video. I’ve been gardening for about 50 years and I’m very very impressed at the quality and thoroughness. excellent and well done, good job!
  • I've successfully grafted a beautiful peach tree onto the rootstock of another peach tree. the flowers are beautiful and I hope to see the fruits it'll yield soon! Super exciting!
  • @jdamelines
The neighbor and I decided to plant some fruit trees for cross pollination and now I’m here wanting to sprout my own already!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge mate!
  • My dear Alex, it is lovely. I love growing all. the fruits. Thank you 🌹🌹🌹. I'm looking forward to watching the next video.
  • I tried to grow a peach 🍑 tree 🌳 from a pit. I put the pit in potting soil and watered it continuously. Nothing happened. Winter came along with wind and storms. The container was blown to the grass and the following Spring there was a tree 🌳 😳. I know right? I saw 👀 the leaves a knew it was either peach 🍑 or nectarine since I had forgotten what was in the container next to the tree 🌳 😅. The second Spring I had flowers and peaches 🍑. Today it is taller than my roof even though I recently pruned it. It is about four and a half years old now. Amazing 👏 🙀 😯 how this all happened. Any way, thought I would share. Thanks for the tips on growing peaches 🍑 and cherries 🍒. Are apricots, plums, plumcots/pluots,, persimmons and apples 🍎 easy to plant? Thank you 😊
  • Your accent and just the way you talk is the best part of the whole video 🙂 thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone! I will be starting my peach pit today. And i think everyone " just loves a tasty peach" 😋 😊 🤭
