Why I Prefer Destiny 1 over Destiny 2

It isn't just nostalgia that has kept me playing Destiny 1 almost daily again. It's a little bit deeper than just nostalgic feelings. The endgame progression and gameplay loops keeps me playing Destiny 1. Hope you listen to my thoughts in this video and share your own in the comments down below.

    D1 had a vibe I can’t explain
  • @LemanRussx
D1 music was just ambient, the music did something to me. Nostalgia is a cruel mistress

I feel like Destiny 1 just had so much more personality than Destiny 2
  • @alec1020
I remember back when i first got the game beating the nightfall was the holy grail of all accomplishments, now a days it just feels like any other strike

D1 made me feel a certain type of way being 15 getting out of school either after a good or bad day just to get on and run Crota, VOG, Oryx, Etc it was such an amazing time and I miss it so much.

I also prefer D1, I prefer the levelling system, I prefer the loot and the search for loot such as strike specific loot. I had no problem with D1's downtimes because it allowed me to have a healthy relationship with the game. The most important thing for me is in D1, I chose to play the 1,000 hrs plus, D2 makes me feel like I have to play.

I literally started D2 first and enjoy D1 more. That says a lot.

D1 nostalgia makes me cry myself to sleep wanting to go back to those days, when times were simpler and id stay up way late with my friends trying to complete a raid😔

Loved this game from the very beginning to the end. I remember not having a single friend to play high-end activities with, until I found one random guy at the tower who messaged me, we did some strikes together, and then he introduced me to his team. We became friends after a couple of days of playing and we started doing nightfalls and the raid (at the time there was only Vault of Glass, and I remember getting the Vex Mythoclast on my 2nd hard mode run, everyone in my team was mad at me for being so lucky). From that moment on we’ve been playing through The Dark Below all together (killed Crota), then House of Wolves (went flawless on Trials and completed every level in the PoE), and then finally playing TTK together (which was my favourite raid ever). This will always be my all time favourite videogame, and I’ll never be able to listen to its soundtrack without shedding some tears of nostalgia.

I love d1 because the raids felt... how can I put this, darker and grittier? In d2 it feels like you’re stepping into a polished, mostly well kept place. But in d1 the raids feel like you’re stepping into a place nobody has gone before. Like vault of glass, you are going into a secret place that bends reality. In Croats end, it feels like you’re going to a place completely overrun by darkness. In kings fall, you are going into a place where one of the most powerful entities resides. And in wrath of the machine, you are going to a place that you will most likely die in. The atmosphere in d1 is amazing, every time I go into a raid it just gives me chills.

This video perfectly explains why I prefer D1 over D2. The constant grinding in D2 got exhausting and I felt like I just couldn't keep up if I wanted to play other games. I've really enjoyed your Destiny 1 series, keep up the good work 👍
  • I always felt this way too, but never knew why. I figured it out when I joined a D2 clan very recently. The way they treated the game and each other was so much more toxic than any of the randoms/friends I played with in D1. They broke every moment of immersion, treating the game like a chore rather than an experience. They refused to allow me the moments of friendship I was searching for. Any moment of playfulness and fun I tried to give was taken away by over arching anger for not “one phasing” correctly or not having the gear they said was the best. Rather than a chase for immersion, secrets (ex: original thorn quest), and connection, destiny has become a chase for “first,” “quickest,” and “god rolls.” I remember climbing the mountains of lord Saladin’s palace and sitting with all my friend’s characters around the campfire. I have a screenshot that I wish I could post here. Ever since D2 came out, I could not recreate that feeling. I have since left the clan and play only by myself.

In my opinion the power grind should only happen every expansion and should be able to be done more passively

Quality over quantity. Too many games make the mistake of throwing hundreds of hours of content at you, and barely any of it is good quality (looking at you AC Origins/Odyssey).

Am I the only one that use to just sit in orbit to listen to the beautiful soundtrack while talking with the boys about life
  • There's another tedious aspect of Destiny 2 that you hadn't mentioned: the vendor stock. In D1, there was less ambiguity in your purchases. If I rank up with a faction, I can choose between random weapons or random armor, or even just buy something specific. D2's vendors feel more like casinos than shops. Every store is copying Master Rahool's business model, which demotivates me to grind if all I get is YET ANOTHER ugly helmet instead of a gun.

I just started playing D2 for the first time again this week. I first bought D2 at release, played for an hour or two, then requested a refund from Blizzard when something felt "off". After they thanked me for all the years of business, they refused to refund me, and I basically never touched the game again until now. After playing for about 10 hours I just couldn't put my finger on what felt off still... Yes the game is beautiful, yes the gunplay is fantastic, but it's just not the same game and I wasn't sure what it was. This video basically sums up exactly what your going to feel if you played D1. I hate the Crucible now when it used to be my favorite part of the game. Maybe the endgame will be fun, but I can already tell by the mountain of drops they're giving me that nothing will feel special. I'm only playing with friends, but man, why does all our favorite games (mostly MMOs) go through this same death cycle? So much nostalgia with the Destiny brand and I'm sad things change like they do. I guess that's life, but Video Games aren't life, that's the point, and here I am ranting on Youtube instead of playing the game, which is all you need to know. Oh well, nice video, glad I'm not alone. Sorry for the long comment. To anyone who read this whole thing, Merry Christmas! :)

If you had played D1 since Year 1 You’d understand why it’s been 1 year a 2 months since I’ve played D2. They started to recycle D2 into D1 because they ran out of creative ideas. “Wow, this gun is gonna be my main” sunsetted “Wow, this loadout seems to be my go to for PvP” nerfed “Dude the Titan is STILL the best character in the game” Buffs it again in the new expansion coming next month Like are you messing
