Reading the comments here is just completely disgusting. It doesn't matter if you agree with her theory or not. There is no reason to belittle someone who is sharing her opinion. Its also interesting how few of the critics have ever taken the time to make a tutorial video themselves. We as a society have become increasingly cynical and nasty and the anonymity of the internet has made it that much worse.

I'm always skeptical about online info & try things only if they will do no harm. So glad I came across this video when looking for "how to worm chickens." Turns out that my eggs were now very messy looking in the nests for no apparent reason. Their droppings were not as healthy looking, nor were they as plump & sleek feathered as usual; that's why I knew it was time to worm & wanted something more natural to avoid chemicals. Well, much to my surprise, the eggs became clean in the nests again within a day or so, the droppings improved greatly & the hens looked better within a few days & weeks. How can I argue with those results; this has been a satisfactory remedy for worming & have used it over the past year when needed . My feed store sells food grade DE for around $23 for the size Becky is showing, it's well worth it.

I'm fixing to get backyard chickens for the first time so I'm so excited! need to learn all I can thank for all the info you provide wish me luck!
  • Our whole family loves your videos, Becky! Thanks for this one especially. I didn't know poopy eggs meant worms and we've had chickens a long time. I did as you said & now nice clean eggs. Thanks a bunch!

I also throw onions and garlic cloves in the pen that they eat. I bust the onion open so they have access to the inside. The garlic cloves are already pealed when they go in as well. I also throw raw, whole, organic grains ( red wheat, white wheat, buckwheat, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, oat groats, spelt, etc.) as scratch. They will devour a beet, sweet potato, pear, and watermelon as well as chase after blueberries!

Becky, 10 people in a room = 10 different opinions. I want to be one who thanks you for all your advice. I am a first time chicken owner and your videos have helped me raise six wonderful layers in my backyard coop. You post what works for you. There is no need to let the negativity of comments enter your peace. Thanks again.

Everyone who finds fault in the information needs to calm the heck down and be more polite.  You're acting like someone has personally offended you.

D.E is also good for external parasites; mites etc on chickens, as well as fleas, ticks etc on dogs and cats. I also use it for internal and external parasite control of my goats and horses, and if you sprinkle it on the ground in the chicken coop/stables/pet bedding it keep bad smells at bay. I love the stuff :) Unfortunately, it isn't cheap here in Australia, but it's well worth it to keep my animals healthy, and to do it without chemicals. The only thing you have to be careful of, particularly if you have any chronic lung problems, is not to inhale it.

I love watching your videos! You have such a pleasant voice and you explain everything so that it's easy to understand which I appreciate because I'm new to the whole chicken thing. We are going to be getting a few hens sometime in the next couple months and all this information is so helpful!! ❤

Thankyou Becky.  all your advise is sooooo helpful to me.
  • Thank you Becky! I bought DE awhile ago, but I wasn't sure how much to feed my girls. Now I feel more comfortable giving it to them. I also use the DE to kill roaches ;)

Thanks Ma'am. I adore my chickens as well and tend to their needs with smart practices. The D.E. works great. We also use it on the floor of our 4x4 raised (adorable) coop, mixed with construction sand instead of shavings. WOW, what a breeze to clean (every day) with a cat litter scooper-upper. There are no fleas or flies although the temps are in the high 90's right now in North Central TN! The D.E. (gray food grade) also goes to their dust bathing areas, and they love love love it! Be well, BTW, you look great!
  • Hello, I am from the Philippines. I would like to thank you for making a video like this. This gives me a lot of learning about starting my own chicken farm. I'm just 23 years old but I like to start my own small business by raising chickens. More powers to your farm!
  • Thankyou! First time watcher here from Australia, I appreciate what you do and I’ll be around more!

FOUND OUT WHAT THE SPOTS ARE. SEE LATER POST.   I always assumed the spots on the eggs to be something like dried blood. They're smooth spots that come off with a little water and rubbing. I certainly don't think it's "poo". But I'm really not sure... The spots are very dark Brown. I hope I haven't been ignoring something serious. Time for some research! On a sidenote, I'm very impressed that you built your house on your own Becky!
