  • "Grew up on a dairy farm" it's over at that point
  • People who weren't around back then ...this was world news and Rulon Gardner was on every talk show and was a household name. What I'm trying to say is that this was a big big deal
  • @goma3
The cardio on this guy was insane. At 300lbs it's incredible how he managed to hold on like that.
  • I remember watching this live. I was just 14 years old and my dad said, “Remember this moment, it will go down as one of the greatest upsets in all of sport’s history” He was not wrong.
  • Whose gonna win: a world class undefeated Russian wrestler with the best supplements science can offer, or some farm boi
  • @llTOONZll
For people who don’t understand why they’re not doing much , understand that these guys are really heavy and at this weight , it consists of a lot of hand fighting , headlocks , and trips . It’s not easy to do takedowns on a man that weighs 280 pounds (also they are evenly matched
  • Rulon told a story years later how later that night while celebrating at the bar, Rulon said he was tapped on his shoulder and when he turned around it was Karelin. Karelin leaned down and whispered in Rulons ear, "Your wearing my medal"... Rulon said he almost gave it to him before Karelin congratulated him and said well done
  • On a dairy farm this is how you decide who eats first.
  • @Arjay82
Karelin has never missed a single minute of leg day.
  • "when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object." That day, the immovable object won.
  • @duke6844
Rulons grandfather worked in my fathers tool and die shop. Fred was so proud of Rulon brought his Gold medal to our shop for everyone to see. That was a great time in history.
  • I have basically no idea what’s going on the entire time here but I’m enthralled by it.
  • One of the biggest upsets in the history of sport. Karelin was the 3 time defending Olympic champion and had not lost a single match in 13 years. His career record was 887 W and 2 L.
  • Rulon had a 56 inch chest, weighed 300 pounds and had world class cardio. That's a bad man.
  • @InspectahReese
The sheer amount of power between the two of these men is staggering

I met Rulon once - one of the nicest, most humble people I've ever met in my life. And that was after he beat Karelin. Dude asked me if I wanted to workout with him, probably out of pity, and I literally couldn't keep up with his warm up!
