I am a West Virginia native. This is now an official state song.

John Denver could make you homesick for places you've never been to, and nostalgic for times you never experienced.
  • @karlsjunior466
Back when life actually felt like this song makes you feel.
  • @757optim
It's meaning is universal. For example - Watching 70,000 people in a stadium in Munich Germany to watch an NFL game, sing along to this song, was emotional.

We lost a jewel when we lost John Denver. Thank you for sharing this one. 🙂
  • You can be in a pub in Ireland, or a sports stadium in Germany, and if this song plays, everyone know every word and will joyously sing along! You can see it on YouTube videos. Just a song that does connect with people.

One of the best " feel good " songs ever written

I think John had a really strong connection with nature. So many of his really big hits evoke ideas of nature and beauty, this song, Rocky Mountain High, Calypso and Annie's song.

The only 'westernized' (non-Chinese) song allowed to be played over the airwaves in mainland China for quite a number of years. How that came to be, & how J.D. found out about it makes for an interesting/amusing story....
  • I can relate to this as I live in the Blue Ridge mountains in north Georgia. RIP John.

I was around child when this song came out and it always made me want to cry and still makes me want to cry in my 60s, for home isn't just a place, it's the people and so many are no longer here!

My son was born in 1973, my wife and i used to listen to John Denver alot. It was very cute when our son would always sing this song when it was on the radio at about the age of 3. Every time i hear this song i think of that time of my life.
  • @JohnBullard
When this is played at any stadium sports event in the US, everyone sings.

Beautiful song! John Denver was a gifted singer songwriter & actor. He had so many great hits in the 70's-80's. Some of his signature songs were "Annie's Song", "Fly Away", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "Grandma's Feather Bed" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns.
  • John Denver "The Eagle and the Hawk." The words and the tune are like birds soaring.
