Dr Idz is WRONG About Plant Toxins!

Dr Idz seems to think that just because he hasn't seen something, that it doesn't exist. This hubris can get you into trouble. You may have seen his video where he took a 30 second clip of a 2.5 hour video and tried to critique it without even watching the rest of the video to see the context. Unfortunately for @dr_idz he was utterly, and verifiably, wrong. He states that plants DON'T contain any carcinogens, and even if they did, they would LIKELY be hormetic (just a guess, no evidence provided). And of course, if they dont exist, then they are neither hormetic or anything else. Too bad for Dr Idz, it is a well documented fact that plants contain harmful toxins, some of which can be carcinogenic, according to the World Health Organization, UC Berkeley professor Bruce Ames, many books on Botany, and countless other sources. If they are hormetic though, he would have to show the following, which he doesnt do:

1. Which ones are hormetic?
2. At what dose are they hormetic?
3. What is the effect?
4. Are all the toxins hormetic?
5. As there can be hundreds of toxins in any given plant, are they all hormetic at same ratio in same plant?
6. How would you know?
7. How can you know the exact amount of each toxin in each plant in say a salad?

Dr Idz does not even attempt to provide any of this because he has no idea and was just making a wild accusation, which seems to be par for the course for him.

What's more, he references studies that claim eating more veggies is beneficial, but they only compare against processed food diets, not whole food meat based diets, so they are meaningless. And where are his references? Mine are below. For all studies always ask, "compared to what?" If they don't compare the two groups that you are looking at, the study isn't applicable to the conversation.

It takes a lot of knowledge to realize just how little we know and to have some humility about it, and unfortunately again, Dr Idz hasn't gotten that far in his studies.

"It doesn't matter how smart you are if you don't stop and think."

**UPDATE!**

Turns out Dr Idz is an ideologue (Idzdeologue?). He specialized in Lifestyle Medicine, which is part of a religious movement led by the Seventh Day Adventist Church to get rid of meat from the diet, as they have been religiously anti meat since the 1800s. They even founded Kellog's cereals and Sanitarium foods to push this agenda. He's ideologically, not scientifically, driven, whether he realizes it or not. Look into it yourself: he is a self-proclaimed Lifestyle Medicine specialist. Lifestyle medicine is founded and run by the Seventh Day Adventist Church out of their medical school Loma Linda and was originally called the Christian Association of Lifestyle Medicine. They set the curriculum and write the exams; this is just a front for their religious agenda. They also have huge ties to the processed food giants like Coca-Cola, Nestle, Sanitarium, and of course Kellog's.

Furthermore, the SDA church also founded the university program in nutrition and dietetics way back in 1917, wrote the textbooks, and still influence the curriculum. I bet you he didn't tell you guys that! Watch this video explaining the connections between SDA, Big Food, and nutrition, Lifestyle Medicine, and those writing the guidelines:    • Belinda Fettke - 'Nutrition Science: ...

My mom is 70 yo, she never felt healthy and good all her life, she is on strict carnivore for 4 months and so much energy. My husband had acute pancreatitis and hospitalized for almost 2 mo last year, we followed the dietitian diet and 6 MO later the inflammation didn’t even move, changed for a carnivore and the 300ml cyst in his pancreas becomes a small cyst … real life real testimony… Carnivore for life, thanks Dr. Chaffee ❤
  • @JackieKay11
Evidenced by so many ex vegans/vegetarians in all the comments sections, who became sick and got their health back on carnivore 🤷‍♀️Thanks Dr Chaffee 👍💪

Raising my hand as yet another chronically sick vegan newbie carnivore, only one month in and ALL my symptoms of autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis, interstitial cystitis (painful bladder disease) are GONE! Also completely gone: anxiety, panic, brain fog, constant fatigue, insomnia, vertigo, itchy skin all over, TMJ pain. I am now in no doubt that plants were literally killing me! So thankful for my doctor suggesting I try carnivore!
  • I knew someone when I was in the US Air Force. She was from the Philippines. This was back in the 1980's. Her sister, who was still in the Philippines killed her entire extended family, by cassava root. She did not cook it right (I'm pretty sure she didn't cook it at all. She made a special salad with shaved cassava root on it. She killed herself, and over 50 people at a family reunion. Needless to say, my friend was very distraught. I flatly refuse to eat any veggies after my own study on the subject.

Finally someone who does a reaction correctly! Not pausing every five seconds and actually first letting the whole point be expressed and then breaking it down! Everyone should do it this way IMHO!
  • Personal anecdote. On Wednesday morning, after 3 months of strict carnivore, weiged 301.4 lbs (down from 330). For our anniversary the wife and I went to a Disney resort. Gave myself permission to eat whatever I wanted. After 36 hours of eating carbs (a little sugar, but primarily wheat, corn & vegetable products) I weigh 312.2 lbs. Every joint and muscle group in my body hurts. The inflammation is real. It's gonna take a week to get rid of this water. So yeah, plant products have been fantastic for me.
  • I used to follow vegan and at one point a vegetarian diet... I felt like I was becoming brittle all of the time, and just two months ago, I started carnivore, and I'm feeling like a freaking beast again. No tired and wobbly legs. I don't feel like I was in a car crash when I wake up. The funny thing is I felt so bad, yet I would preach to others about eating vegan to feel better when I myself didn't feel better.
  • I was vegan. Then, I started suffering from oxalate issues! I didn't even know what oxalates were! Plants are toxic! So thankful I found you and the other carnivores! Autoimmune issues that I'd been suffering from for years are now gone. I'm 60 lbs lighter and feel like a million bucks! Meat, eggs, and limited dairy is the proper human diet!!
  • It's funny he says they have a hormetic effect yet claims they are not toxic. Does he even understand what hormesis is? Hormesis would imply they were harmful. How does he know the toxins he's consuming are acting hormetically rather than harmfully? He hasn't quantified hormetic levels.

Another favorite quote of mine from Thomas Sowell is - "It doesn't matter how smart you are unless you stop and think"
  • @shansen008
I thought it was hilarious that he was wearing a stethoscope the whole time. Like, "Look at me guys, im really a doctor!".

I have a bachelor's of science in botany (I triple majored in botany, zoology, and chemistry). I also have a master's of public health in environmental management, what environmental management entails is how we affect the environment and, in turn, how the environment affects us, it can be a vicious downgrading health cycle for both animals (i.e. humans) and the environment. There are WAY more toxins in plants than we are aware of, more than we can detect and are continually discovering more and more. Any benefits that "edible" plants could possibly give us by consuming them are negated by their numerous harms. Many plants will kill the consumer acutely, all the others will kill us chronically. That physician is wrong! He is totally ignorant of the plant' s dangers to human health. Plants are not for human consumption if you wish to be healthy, so just eat meat based foods for optimal health.
  • I have always been aware that certain plants are toxic, for instance, nightshades. And somehow I was always reluctant to go vegetarian. Never even considered veganism. But one of your videos, Dr. Chaffee, opened my eyes to the fact that ALL plants have some kind of chemical defense. That was more than a year ago, and it was the kick I needed to go from keto to carnivore. That was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Thank you, Dr. Chaffee, for spreading this valuable information.
  • @gigih.2169
So his position is 'they are not toxic, but if they are, it's okay, it's good for the body'. Way to come to the table with solid information. Also, the common thought among people who don't see it is that either a plant kills you on the spot, or it is perfectly safe. No possibility that the health problems can be cumulative or contribute to disease unknowingly.
  • I’m new to carnivore and have spent weeks researching and learning the truth about meat. I’m not full carnivore yet, but getting there. What I’ve learned so far is astonishing. We’ve been lied to all these years…
  • I hope Dr. Chaffee makes other videos like this. Responding to people who are so confidently incorrect. I admit when I first heard him say plants were trying to kill you , I thought he was crazy till I tried carnivore myself. Thanks Dr. Chaffee for doing what you do!!
  • I appreciate how you calmly stated facts rather than trying to make him look like an idiot, as he did, ironically making himself appear as one.
  • @earthmamma85
I was vegan for almost 5 years. I ate a wfpb diet over 90% of the time, took all the supplements and ate the superfoods, did all the things… yet I got terrible sick… depression, anxiety, severe stress, I was a complete disaster emotionally… brain fog, memory issues, cognitive issues , I developed digestion problems, skin rashes, skin sensitivities, temperature regulation issues, I sunburned within 10 minutes, joint pain from hell, swelling, tooth sensitivity, eyesight issues, hair and nails were horrific, migraines, severe pms, pain during sex, urination issues…and more. Within months of truly cutting out plants to a minimal amount and eating a high animal based diet, all of these issues disappeared! They’re gone! The only thing I have issues with now is bladder issue flare ups. So yeah.
  • @denaetak1147
You are Awesome! Before I found you and heard about the Carnivore Diet...I was eating 3 bags of spinach a week....thinking I needed to eat more and more to be healthy. I didn't know that was what was making my feet and hands swell sooooo bad. I could hardly walk and close my fists. I finally decided to try keto because my coworker told me about it and about the Carnivore diet. I started on keto and most of my inflammation went down in 3 days. I was flabbergasted! I seen you and few other Carnivores on here and had to switch into Carnivore. I am starting to feel much better now! I also am now quitting coffee...I think this is the hardest part of the whole transition...but from what you said I really believe you are not only correct but you make sense in everything you say. I really appreciate you sharing all this knowledge for the world to see.❤❤❤
