In the rain scene, Doc was yelling " if I'm not white enough and not black enough then who am I ". Extremely good movie, it's right up there with another movie " The Pianist"

It’s movies like this that make me realize..politicians nor legislation came make us accept one another..it is our own individual responsibility for that change. If I can change..and you can change..we all can change
  • I only started ugly crying at the end of this video when I found out this movie was based on a true story. How had I never heard this story before? In school (I'm in my mid 30s now) I was only taught about the horrors of segregation and the Jim Crow Laws, but there were never any hopeful or positive stories about how people on the opposite sides of a conflict can come together just by going through normal human experiences together. I'm not saying that the past should be forgotten, I'm saying that we aren't living in the past anymore and that to repair race relations (because the US is NOT a "post-racial" society like everyone likes to think) we should start highlighting the ways in which people on ALL sides have helped each other in the past. I feel that today's kids (who are the future) would benefit more from being shown HOW it's possible for people on different sides of a conflict to be good to each other instead of only showing them the reasons why everyone hated each other in the past.
  • Everytime I hear stories like these it breaks my heart. I'm a 40 year old white man from London UK. I grew up with white, black, Asian, Jamaican, African all races of all walks. Many are my great friends for life! I have never ever seen them any different, never spoken to them any different. Racism is something that has been built into your brain by very ignorant and uneducated people. You are not born being racist! We are all as one. We are all soul's!

They both died the same year little over 3 months apart. The moment these two bonded they became brothers till the end.

Mr. Mortenson is astonishing in his ability to morph into every character he portrays. He was good in LOTR, he was good in Hildago, he was amazing in A History of Violence, he was very good in Green Book, he was heartbreaking in some post-apocalyptic film I forget the name of. Such a great, underappreciated actor. I wish he'd get his overdue recognition.
  • I remember when I watched this movie with my classmates. Everyone was anoyed at first bcs we thought it was gonna be boring but in the end everyone was anazed by the movie and some, including me, had some tears in their eyes. Such a beautiful piece.
  • To my black brothers and sisters…. I love y’all and I’m proud to be what I am ! Our grandparents went through some foul ish as did our ancestors and even though racism still exists , we must not stop for our youths . ❤
  • I’m a middle aged white guy and I have tears in my eyes because of this true story

You left out the part that the Doc was Gay and Tony had to rescue him when he was caught with another man in a steam room. So Tony not only overcame his racism but also his homophobia.
  • As a black South African, this is touching. Here apartheid ended in 1994, which is not a long time ago.

One of the greatest movies I've ever watched, hands down...They both really did their roles and talent justice.Seeing them form a bond and start looking at life with a different perspective throughout the movie was great.

I'm ashamed of some things I've said in my life. I've been angry on games, said some horrible things... I might have apologized to the men afterwards (who graciously accepted my apology, when I didn't deserve it) but that humiliation I brought upon myself still lingers. Racism really is hate. be better than that and be better than I was. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm better than I was before. There's always hope to do good and become a better person. We all breathe the same air and live. Don't be a dick. Good movie btw!

The ending of this movie when tony hug the doc and the way the family took him in shows love can change everything truly heart warming ❤️ ♥️ 💖
  • This easily became one of my favorite movies instantly. What an amazing film. The real Tony was actually in the sopranos in the first two seasons as the big boss that jimmy sacks answered to until he died and his son was gonna take over. He was also in goodfellas as ray liota is introducing all the gangsters in the bar

Fun Fact: Dr Don Shirley's parents migrated from Jamaica just before he was born , fascinating how such a small island produces such culturally captivating and talented people.
  • Love this story recap never saw the movie, but after this recap it brought tears of joy to will Don and Tony journey and relationship. We all bleed same color , brain, bones and organs are the same color and similar in nature. Only the eyes preceive colors that created the indifference of individuals.
  • I honestly cried when i watched this movie for the first time, specifically the scenes when Doc gets out of the car and when Tony’s family welcomed Doc. It was one of the only three movies that have made me cry.
  • He's definitely not racist. I don't know any racists that have black guys over for beers and their black boss over for Christmas.
