Santa Cruz VS and Collings CJ45 T Shootout!

Published 2023-03-02
Lindsay from Maple Street Guitars puts these two monster slope shoulder dreadnoughts to the test. The Santa Cruz VS has a beautiful bear claw Sitka top and the Collings CJ45 T has a killer Adirondack top. They both have mahogany back and sides. What do you think?!

  • I have a Santa Cruz VS. It's hard to describe it but the sound blossoms as opposed to shoots out. It has a nice combination of power and beauty. Certainly the beast acoustic I have.

Excellent skills there Lindsey, you look so relaxed playing. Very nice 👌

Both sound great! That would be a tough decision between the two for sure. Nice playing.

Interesting. Collings seems to have more mids, balance, and note separation. Santa Cruz has more base and “blended” sound. Tough choice. Might come down to what style of song i was trying to do. Santa Cruz has that majestic quality but I can see the Collings being better for blues or country etc.

Hm. Interesting differences. Beautiful, both, but the Collings seems to have a little more mid-range. I like that. A little closer to the Gibson. But I wouldn't have an issue owning either one. Nice comparison!

They have different scale lengths, the Collings is 1/8 " longer. Which actually makes some difference. Otherwise a good comparison and great demo! Thanks!

Thank you so much for the review, and for taking the time to do such comparison… Neck wise …I’m a HUGE FAN of massive baseball bat necks like the one you mentioned about the Collings. I can only assume you got a chance to play quite a few guitars, giving the fact that the Collings its slightly out of my range, is there anything that you might recommend, any other guitar with a massive neck like that? Thank you so very much !!!

My vote is for the Collings. Amazing guitar skills exhibited here by the way!
