Personal updates until 1:57, so skip to there if you're just looking for the video's topic! This is how I lowered my voice within the past 3 years. I think the changes are pretty significant, so I thought I'd share!

NOTE: I did not completely stop binding. I bought a size bigger in my binder and only now wear a tight one when in a setting where I feel most dysphoric (at a party, in a class when I don't pass, etc). Binders do still work (quite a bit) if you get a size up, and it's much more bearable.

My voice is the only reason I don't pass. Just the other day I was at a meeting and I said something and this girl just stared at me for a long time. After a while, she said "Forgive me for staring, but with the way you were dressed, I had no idea you were a girl!" Crushed.

"oh yeah i just stopped binding" me, throwing my binder out the window: THERE MUST BE A SACRIFICE

i refer to myself as a cis dude, even though i’m intersex. i was raised male and my mind is male, so that’s why i like to think of myself as being cis. i’m very insecure about my body because of my hormone issues, making my chest be a lot more feminine than i would ever want it to be. the kids in my class would call me “she-male” and other shitty things and it made me just hate my body even more. i have always been more self conscious about my voice, because it doesn’t have the texture of a post-pubescent guy, i sound young. if anyone, especially trans guys want tips to making their voice cis-passing pre-t, i have you covered, my man. - firstly, talk with your chest—super important. my voice used to be really high but once i got older my voice shifted down into my chest—as it does with cis guys. this will help make your voice sound more hollow, rather than being up in your throat. - actually taking the time to lower your larynx and speak with your vocal folds deeper in your throat, will help overall to make your voice sound deeper. but make sure to only lower it to where it feel comfortable, don’t hurt yourself. - also, taking from the back of your mouth and throat can also help texturize your voice. it won’t be the thickened texture that testosterone will provide, but it works well. to talk with the back of your mouth, it can be done by tightening the top of your vocal folds and lowering the back of your tongue while you talk. - also, speech patterns are important as well. there are specific ways that make your speech rather than voice feminine or masculine. try to talk slower and almost kind of arch your wording without jumping back up into your throat. i don’t really know how to explain it sorry. - but most importantly, be safe. don’t hurt yourself whilst doing this, and remember that this is just a temporary situation hopefully. though, if and when you start testosterone, still talk with your chest and with other masc ways of speaking—this will help avoid the “tr*nny voice” (which is really just something that will make you sound throaty and nasally—not that cis guys can:t talk like that, but it’s mostly specific to ftm fellas). have a great day :)

Sometimes female voice actors voice-over teenage boys in Japanese anime. There are plenty of such tutorials, at industrial level, in Japanese and Chinese. So... I guess you can find something similar in English too?

I needed this sooo much! A lot of the time my voice is why I don't pass...sure I am kind of small for a 14 year old guy and all that but people only question my voice and I am here like god someone save me...and I think you just did! Thank you!!! ♥
  • im glad i found this video, i am pre-T and i hate how high my voice sounds so i really wanted to lower it, my parents are doing everything they can to hold me back from transitioning, and publicly embarrass me all the time in hopes of deterring me :( but im 18 so i think they should stop trying to treat me like a kid with no rights its my body not theirs
  • Humming as you slowly tilt your head back and look at the sky is another great way to lower it, but do it repeatedly for good results.
  • My voice used to be the only reason I didn't pass. I voice trained and now I 100% pass AND I AM SO THANKFUL. I voice trained for a little bit and it really hurt my throat, so I stopped. But then 6 months ago my voice began to gradually deepen on it's own. Now it's the deepest it's ever been and it sounds natural. I am so happy about it. Everyone I meet know's I'm a male. It's SUCH a relief.
