Watch this amazing *Award-Winning* sci-fi short film called "The Space Between Us" as we find the world choking on pollution, and needing oxygen masks to survive. However, the key to humanity"s survival may be held by a captured sea-creature named "Adam"! For more information, please see the details and links below:

We follow Juliette, a cleaning lady in a research institute called Beacon. The world of Beacon is a desolate place where the remainder of the human race is forced to use oxygen masks to survive because of severe air pollution.

In their search for finding a new way of living they manage to capture a sea creature, they name Adam that could prove vital in mankind's salvation. The short film explores the theme self-sacrifice in a fast-paced action, sci-fi setting. The main selling point is the VFX done by a crew of 10 students at The Netherlands Film Academy.

A solid pipeline was set up which ensured a coherent workflow across various disciplines. Most of the indoor action was shot on an extensive location at a concrete factory.

The outdoor scenes were shot with the actors on a green screen set and composited with fully rendered backgrounds. The Netherlands Film Academy first ever high - profile CG creature Adam was a big achievement for the small team.

FX was also an integral part of the film as a large chunk of the action takes place underwater. The film has received a lot of positive feedback from audiences during the screening at Eye Film Museum.

The film has won four awards at the 2015 edition of the Scifi Film Festival in Australia.

This is an amazingly well done story of how even in a post climate catastrophe world it still sucks to be the cleaning lady.

Looking at the symbolism at the end there, where she took off her mask It dawned on me that we were seeing a less Human version of the Janitor for most of the film. She was wearing a mask that enabled her to live, but dehumanised her like it did the soldier she killed, the colonel and everyone else When she removed her mask, she became fully Human in both our eyes and Adam's. She assumedly dies with a creature that she saved, not as one of the many people in that base, but as a Human. It's about the concept of Humanity, Compassion, Empathy and the overwhelming desire to act upon them in many people. Absolutely beautiful
  • Fantastic. She was hiding the fact she could breathe water and Air. She must have been one of the last experiments with gills. Not positive why she was still up on Beacon, except she had no idea there were mutants and a civilization down below. What a great film. I think the premise good enough for a full length feature!
  • What a wonderful film; I loved it! I believe she had gills; but the bad air quality was such that even if you had gills, you wouldn't want to be breathing the deadly air. The mask she wore looked like oxygen; that's why the evil man said, "why is she wasting the oxygen?"He believing she unworthy of oxygen. The mask was to help filter the air; because it's so polluted. She had her neck covered with a scarf to hide the gills.. There was no oxygen tank attached, I was just wondering why she would be working on the polluted surface, when she could live below. But then maybe she had it done a long time ago as a child. The posters were old, and getting gills had been done for years. But no longer done as it was in the past, the experts are gone.. She is poor, but unsure about living in the ocean. Most of the population is gone, and so is the expertise to get gills. Then they find Adam and the fat rich man plans to take his. It looks like they had been taking many, probably for other rich people who could afford it. As we could see the bloody mess left behind. These operations are done carelessly and in dirty conditions. You can see there were other dirty tanks that were used in the past, in the room. She decides to rescue the ocean man Adam, she knew she had to make a decision to either stay there and watch them kill another, or push him off into the ocean and she fall with him. She rescues him and goes in with him. When finally in the ocean, she looks around and sees the wondrous beauty, as she slowly sinks! She is amazed and awe struck, because she had never seen the ocean before. He, Adam saved her from sinking to low and brought her up higher. She removed the mask to let him know she too could breath. It's a happy ending!
  • How odd that The Shape of Water is so strikingly similar to this... What's going on?

Этот фильм был бы отличным, если ему дали бы возможность выйти в полном сюжете. Я уверена что он был бы просто прекрасным фильмом.

Beautiful, as always. Although I hate the way they usually leave us hanging! So I decided to continue the story... When Eve removed her mask, which connected her to the oxygen tank, she finally embraced her father's side. She removed the scarf around her neck and let her gills show. She could breath under water. "You know you're the only one alive who has ever seen them," Eve told Adam, who couldn't stop looking at her neck, and her eyes. "But how?" He asked, still in shock. "My dad... Wait, you speak English?!" Turns out Eve's mother used to be a deep sea diver who spent most of her life in the sea- on her boat, and half of it in the sea. She was a collector of precious sea-stones. One day her leg got stuck and she couldn't swim back up, and after an hour of struggling, she fainted. Next day, she woke up in her boat. Someone had saved her. But there were no signs of any person, and she was miles and miles away from land. She was too weak to fish for her food, but a day later, she woke up to find all kinds of fish and crustacean at the corner of her boat. This happened the next day, and the next, and the next. A week later, she stayed up all night, hidden, wanting to find out who saved her life and kept feeding her. That's when she met Soul. A fishan. They swam together a lot. And she thought he was the kindest of beings. He thought she was the most beautiful. It didn't take long, they got attached, feelings got involved, so did their bodies. Eve was born 25 years ago on that same boat. She loved water, a lot. Her gills would come out from her neck and waist every time she felt so much, or any time she was under water longer than her lungs could allow. Her morning swim with her dad now just a memory. Sometimes she wondered if it really ever happened. But her mother got really sick when she was 15. They had to go back to land. She died in the hospital. The hospital which had an undergound lab, where Eve kept being assigned to clean. Before she died, Eve's mother made her daughter promise her that she'll never go back to the sea. The Fishan Cheiftan had found out about her, and wanted to kill her, and prevent the humans from ever finding out about her- a halfling. She was too young to live in the boat alone anyway. So she stayed. Eve started working at the hospital in exchange for food and a place to sleep. She never made friends, or dated, never let anyone too close because of the fear that her gills would come out when she was too angry, or too happy, or too sad, or too aroused. She kept to herself, and didn't do much other than live, work, and breath. Until Adam. "Wow. Well, that explains a lot." Adam replied after a moment of silence. "You have to come with me." "No, I can't. It's not safe. Nowhere is safe for me..." Eve softly said. She needed to find a place to hide. A new place on earth, a new identity, a new life. "No, you'll be safe. Nothing bad will happen to you down here. Come with me." Adam insisted. He took her hand and started pulling her with him. "Stop! How do you know that?? You can't help me, no one can, but myself. You need to let me go, I need to find my way back... Wait, you didn't tell me how you can speak my language. My mother told me your species speaks something else." "Yeah, we do. Well, most of us at least." "So how comes you can speak English? You were only in the tank for 5 days!" "Our new Chieftan taught me. He's my neighbour." "Oh. He can understand and speak English? My mom never told me that some of you cou..." Eve stopped mid-sentence. It couldn't be. "What's your new Chieftan called?" She held her breath, almost knowing what will come next. "Soul. He's called Soul." Adam responded. THE END.

Я надеюсь что постановщики фильма не оставят его коротким, но по работают над ним, чтобы всё-таки закончить его полным. ❤

This film is so beautiful. Few movies can reach really inside of you and truly touch your heart. Whoever did this has a real talent for making extraordinary films. Yes, the movie "The Shape of Water" bears striking similarity to this short film (with the exception of a few differences like the time and geographic location within the story, and the heroine in this short film not being mute). So what? I believe movies like these should be appreciated. I want more movies that explores profound truths. What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to love? What does it mean to fight to save a life when others would have disregarded it out of cruelty and greed. Like Eliza signed in "The Shape of Water" trailer in response to her neighbor being reluctant to help save the creature who captured her heart and pointing out that he's not human, "If we do nothing, then neither are we." It really resonates with you.
  • @Zachary3D
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! This has immersed and captured me like no other CGI has ever done. Between the amazing design (sound and visual), I'm lost in their world.
  • @kursed2.01
Absolutely gorgeous. Heartbreaking that his kind was used for keeping humans alive. If Juliette had nothing else, that was probably the best way to go, to help and see something beautiful. Incredible work!!
  • @pixelking
Was perfect until the end. What's the symbolic meaning of her taking off her breather. And also, the water pressure would have crushed her like a tin can.
  • @HikaruKatayamma
I guess in the future we forgot how to extract oxygen from water....

  • @angelwatcher374
Wow! If that’s CGI, they’ve gotten really good at making cartoon characters look like real people.
  • @tyrese.t1010
This short film is incredible, at first glance, it looks so, so real, but then i actually saw the animation. I honestly don't know how they do it, but words can't do this film justice in describing how visually stunning it is. This is the kind of content that i subscribed for, this is the kind if content that i truly enjoy.
