Warner Bros. Pictures invites you to experience “The Color Purple.” Produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones, the film is a bold new take on the classic story of love and resilience, adapted from the beloved novel and the Broadway musical.
Torn apart from her sister Nettie (Halle Bailey) and her children, Celie (Fantasia Barrino in her major motion picture debut, reprising her 2005 role from Broadway) faces many hardships in her life, including an abusive husband simply called Mister (Colman Domingo). With the support of sultry singer Shug Avery (Taraji P. Henson) and stand-her-ground stepdaughter Sofia (Danielle Brooks, Tony-nominated for the role on Broadway), Celie ultimately finds extraordinary strength in the unbreakable bonds of a new kind of sisterhood.
“The Color Purple” is directed by Blitz Bazawule from a screenplay by acclaimed playwright and WGA Award winner Marcus Gardley (“The Maid”).

Taraji was at her ABSOLUTE BEST in this movie. She gave everything and more! She deserves the compensation she is requesting.

And this is why they need to pay Taraji what she’s due cause she completely captivates you. My mouth was wide open during this scene cause I was so shocked by all the talent this woman holds within herself. I love Taraji ❤❤❤

🤩 The fact that Taraji was actually floating through a real drained swamp and not cgi is just 👌🏽

No one can bring life to a character more than Taraji b henson 🔥🔥🔥
-
I feel like it should be noted… She can sing, but even she acknowledged the work and support she had to prepare herself for this type of Clare and professional style of singing!

That’s me on the 🎷! It was a blast being a part of this film! FYI, it was first shot in the woods of Covington, GA then later inside a studio in Atl. Dope how they put it all together!

I had never heard her sing and she blows the roof off with this song!!!

I remember watching the 1985 Shug Avery and being taken in by her beauty and attitude. Then I saw this, and I swear I was speechless. She brought a whole new light on Shug Avery, and OMG that entrance is the best!!! They stuck pretty close to Shugs original dress, but this took it a step further and... wow. I caught myself singing this all day today. Red is a color that commands respect and attention here. OH and to see her walk right past Mister and go right up to Celie was the best end to this scene!!!
-
The last line before this scene: "Shug wants to make an entrance" GUUUURRRRLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
-
