  • Thanks for the information . I know a machinist in Greece who removed the gearshift lever from his car and redesigned it so evertime he parked his car he just removed the lever and it was NEVERstolen or vandalized in 20 years he kept his car.
  • Garage your car to help prevent thievery. Also, add another layer of protection by having your German Shepherd sleep in the garage.

I learned about these techniques years ago when I had cars and motorcycle stolen from me. Last night, I heard a loud repetitive banging noise at 11 PM. I went to investigate as I knew exactly what that noise was (most likely) and noticed a getaway car just idling at a stoplight while someone else was in a parked vehicle in a driveway. I called the police and was able to thwart a vehicle theft because I had the exact same thing done to me. Knowledge is power. Please use it wisely!

Put a fake kill switch under the steering column and hook up the fake kill switch to honk the horn and turn interior light on unless the real kill switch is on. Bonus points for making a transistor circuit that keeps the horn and lights on even when the switch is off. Also the real kill switch would be a 3 way that can disable it :)

I like to use the fuel pump power for a kill switch. Let them crank it a while, with false hope.

Thank you! To prevent your vehicle from getting stolen you must know how they are getting stolen to make it more challenging.
  • At major events like sports games and concerts, many people who arrive late park illegally and get towed away. Thieves just come in a tow truck and haul away whatever vehicle they want. If you see a plain painted tow truck, with no company name, watch out ! ! !

I just take the fuel pump fuse with me if I plan to park in a suspicious area for a longer period of time.

Thieves can also use a signal jammer so when you click to lock your car while walking away they can jam the signal and your car doesn't lock even though you think you locked it. So you should always press your lock button numerous times while walking away.

For newer cars with a FOB, the RFI blocker, or Faradays cage, is a small metal box that blocks radio waves. Drop your keys in it when you get home. Great advice.

Very cool explanations. What caught my eye was the graph showing how car thefts had been declining through the 1990's and 2000, then was a bit of an upsurge in the next 3 years, coincidentally, Gone in 60 Seconds came out in late 2000, and Fast & Furious in 2001 :D Then they started to continue to downward trend until 2014, when Need for Speed was released.
