Lake Michigan is a giant body of water where you HAVE to plan your weather windows, especially in a 34' Trawler cruising 6 knots. Today we cruise from a gorgeous anchorage inside Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore all the way down, 70 miles, to Ludington Michigan. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into cruising Lake Michigan and how wonderful it can be!

Thanks for watching!

Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly – and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.

Thank you for following us along our journey!

I think this illustrates the dilemma that Loopers have when coming thru the Great Lakes, and we have talked to many of them over the years. You want to maximize your time in Georgian Bay and the North Channel and rightly so, but that always puts you at Mackinac just before Labor Day. Lake Michigan starts to turn to Fall weather real quick after Labor Day. We've been stuck in Leland for multiple days when going there after Labor Day. So Loopers end up blitzing thru Lake Michigan, unfortunately out of necessity, to get to Chicago. They end up missing the many cool towns and ports in Little Traverse Bay, Grand Traverse Bay and down the west coast of Michigan. One could spend a whole summer cruising Lake Michigan, that's why we keep our boat there.
  • I remember climbing those as a kid in the 90s, what a cool experience. Enjoy and stay safe!

Enjoyed the segment on Ludington. So happy to see that the SS Badger is still running. Sixty five years ago my wife and I spent our wedding night on the Badger. It was a somewhat stormy night but the marriage has survived! So enjoy watching you travels!

Pure Michigan. =) Home. Nice to see someone else experiencing and enjoying it from a perspective I've never been able to. I've seen most of the state from land at one time or another, but the one time I've been on Lake Michigan we'd barely left the shore before I was nearly unconcious on the floor of the cabin seasick. The only time I can remember ever being motion sick on the water. =/
  • Our freshwater backyard is certainly one of a kind! Thank you so much for visiting what we consider a slice of heaven. BTW that lake can get wicked ugly at times. Never underestimate her. Kind of like....when she is good she is really really good but when she is bad she is horrid. There is a reason it is considered graveyard of the wrecks. (You should have checked out the Fransisco Morazon on the south end of South Manitou. She is still partially above water. Interesting shipwreck with an interesting story)

Just found you. I have a daughter that has 10 acres near Mackinac. I love going up there.

So happy you enjoyed Michigan. Have lived here all my life and think there’s no place better in the US! We boat out of Muskegon and Lake Michigan is our favorite of the Great Lakes. Loving your videos!

  • That sunrise🔥! The sunset was also so pretty! Lake Michigan and the surrounding towns and dunes are gorgeous! Can’t forget to mention that yummy ice cream Jenn had 😋! Thank you for showing us the beauty of Lake Michigan!

We were really taken by how you have let your AGLCA burgee reflect your journey. You are also correct in that Michigan is a journey onto itself. It is a beautiful (our former home) state. My take on your comments over the last few videos is an RV in your future to explore more. Just saying...we did the same , boat, loop, motorhome, boat again. We SO enjoy your videos!!
