Coco Gauff was reduced to tears after arguing with the chair umpire during her straight-sets defeat to Donna Vekic at Roland-Garros, saying “it always happens here” after a disputed line call.

Chair umpire Jaume Campistol overruled decision from a line judge and awarded Vekic a point, believing her return of serve was in, which handed the Croatian a break and a 4-2 lead in the second set.

Gauff said: “It always happens here at the French Open to me. Every time. This is like the fourth, five time it’s happened this year.”

Coco has to get tougher and compete when she gets down in a match! She tends to fold up under pressure. She has to stop the stupid crying and compete. She had no business losing to that girl.
  • I watched it over and over. The call came after she hit the ball. And the umpire was right to call correction as the ball had not gone out. Don’t understand everyones problem with it 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

The umpire called it out just after Coco hit the ball. I did a stop action of the play and the ball had already left her racket when the umpire yells 'out!' It was a millisecond, but it was after the ball had been struck, so Coco was wrong. She was also wrong to make accusations/implications that she is being unfairly targeted (presumably because of her race since she referenced Serena). Bad calls are just part of tennis. Ask John McEnroe about that.

Need to use robots to call everything.

"It's always happening to me, it always happened to Serena Williams ..." She thinks she gets bad calls because she's black? EVERYONE gets bad calls. Many players get worse calls than this and they aren't black. Bad calls have always happened to everyone in tennis and other sports. She's going to be crying about everything just like Williams did for her whole career even though she was mostly pampered and catered to by everyone on the tour and the media, even when she was wrong.

She lost 6-2 in the final set. Crying about 1 point is immature. Sick of this attitude in sports. You just weren't good enough. Go cry somewhere else.
  • Instead of being a victim, perhaps she should practice more and play better!

Poor baby cries real tears! 😂 It’s only fair when CoCo wins.

Life isn't fair. fair is somewhere you go to get sick on cotton candy and corn dogs.

But I can’t find video of him actually calling out everyone is talking and showing stills.

Here we go. Boo hoo...it didn't go my way, so let me complain. Gimme a break.

Jesus… grow a pair Coco and be tough. You were up 4-1 in the first and lost it. Whining exceeds winning with you.

Don't really think Coco has a leg to stand on here. Having watched it back - it seemed like the 'out' call was made, at worst, at the same time as she hit the shot. But it looked more like it happened afterwards. This sounds more like frustration that she was being beaten by a tough opponent. Hopefully she'll learn from this.
