“I’m not in this for my legacy”: Biden says he still believes he’s best qualified to be president

U.S. President Joe Biden mixed up the names of his vice-president, Kamala Harris, and his Republican rival Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, as more of the 81-year-old incumbent's Democratic colleagues call on him to end his re-election bid. It was his first press conference since his poor debate performance against Trump, 78.

"Look, I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice-president if she was not qualified to be president. So start there," Biden said as he responded to a reporter’s question about his confidence in Harris. That came a few hours after Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "President Putin."

Biden faces growing doubts from donors, supporters and fellow Democrats, who fear he no longer has the ability to beat former president Trump in the Nov. 5 election, or to lead the country for another four-year term.

Asked if delegates are “free to vote their conscience” in the upcoming Democratic convention, Biden said that “obviously, they're free to do whatever they want.” However, he also said that “I believe I'm the best qualified to govern. And I think I'm the best qualified to win — but there are other people who could be Trump too.”

“I'm not in this for my legacy. I'm in this to complete the job I started,” Biden said.

    Look at the octogenarian using a teleprompter with prearranged questions from the "audience". Oh dear, things must be really serious, hint, the lady doth protest too much. You face your Nightmare November in a little over ten weeks, my advice is that you need to up your game. Trying someone younger might just save your christian bacon, but I doubt it. In case it doesn't work out for you my new advice is that you should immediately make sure your jabs and passport are up to date. You know it makes sense.
