RIP, the world will never have another Richard Simmons.
  • His birthday was yesterday. If you grew up in the 80's and 90s, he was everywhere. Always sweet and kind, even when he was made fun of.
  • He suffered from empathy and compassion burnout. The man did the work of 100 people every day. God bless this kind man! RIP Mr Simmons. ❤❤❤
  • He never ever ever said or did anything mean to anyone. So many celebrities and reporters made fun of him, some even to the point of bullying. He always turned the other cheek. He was so kind.

He genuinely cared about people, that's a rarity nowadays.

I went on a cruise with Richard, and he was the same in person as on television! The sweetest guy ever…he spent time with every person! ❤️

I feel so lost.. So sad. I don't know what to say.. I was the biggest kid in Elementary middle and High School.. I got up to 560lbs.. He always made me feel good about myself and that I was worthy of love and respect.. You will be missed and loved... And never forgotten..❤

The saddest part about getting older is losing people who’s been around my entire life. RIP, Mr. Simmons. 😢

Simmons will forever be mocked for his flamboyance, but that exact trait is what made him so emotionally accessible to those who needed his help the most. We can only hope our praise had outweighed the ignorance in his last years.

Sweating to the Oldies got me in shape! Richard was so supportive, and there were obese dancers, so i knew i could do it too! I could dance in my living room for an hour, getting sweaty and listening to oldies, while Richard cheered me on and made me feel like i was worth it. I wish i still had that old VHS because i could sure use his help again. I hope Richard had joy and peace in his late years. ❤

In the 90s, my mom had written a letter to Richard Simmons and he called our house, which is something he did for fans and customers of his workouts. My mom wasn't home at the time but my father talked to Richard Simmons for over an hour. They laughed and cried. Before he hung up, he asked to talk to me and asked me if I was safe. He was an incredibly compassionate human being. Rest in Power Richard!

He wrote me a short letter back in the 70’s. To encourage me when I was trying to lose weight.
  • Richard Simmons was a sweetheart of a guy. He was mocked for his personality over the years, but he always wanted to help people and make them feel welcome and loved. RIP.
  • The BEST tribute that ET has produced. It was emotional, empathetic, respectful, and sentimental. Appropriate sound-bites, b-roll and overall production. Richard was my introduction to exercise videos, and inspired me not to be the "overweight kid." I'm still a size 0-3, Richard. Thanks!

This is a person who lived his life and one of the few who reached “self-actualization” which very few could possibly understand because they don’t know what it means to reach that level of self awareness and to be comfortable. God bless him!
