We lived in No. Cali in the early 1970's. A couple moved into town to start the first Mexican restaurant there. When the lady heard our family had never had Mexican food before she invited us over. I will never forget, she had an entire table full of so many dishes!!! My favorite was a tostada. It was so great how they went all out to introduce us to their food. Great food. And my favorite still to this day.
  • You saying, "folding it turns a tostada into a taco" reminds me of a Billy Connelly bit from one of his stand-up routines. He says all Mexican food is the same thing, just folded differently. He does a bit where he calls over the waiter to say that he ordered something different, and the waiter just grabs his meal and re-folds it 😅

My sister has been making tacos with raw hamburger inside the corn tortilla since 1970 or before! She heats up the tortilla right on the flame just to make it soft, put hamburger on half of it and fold it in half and put a toothpick on it to keep it folded closed and make a stack of these on a plate (30 or so) and then fry them with oil in a pan and then bring all the cooked crispy tacos to the table on a platter where she had all the ingredients in bowls dices tomato, onion, cilantro, lettuce, cheese, chiles & salsa and our family (mom & dad plus 8 kids) would sit around the table put a few on your plate take the toothpick out and fill them with your favorite ingredients and the meat was cooked perfectly inside the corn tortilla never having actually touched the griddle. I'm blessed to still have my mom & dad plus all of my siblings still alive today (plus a ton of nephews & nieces and great nephews & nieces) praise God for that! And we still love my sister's fried tacos to this day!

I'm thinking adding finely diced onion and some taco seasoning into the meat. Then sour cream instead of mustard. Yum.
  • I feel like a huge opportunity has been missed by not calling them Tiktaco's
  • Kinda reminds me of Hawawshi - an Egyptian recipe where it's kofte seasoned beef (or lamb) filled into a pita bread raw and then cooked, so the bread toasts in the juices of the meat.

Learning to pan flip an over easy egg has been one of my top 5 accomplishments in cooking over the years

I have to say this, I love cooking videos like this! It reminds me not to be intimidated trying to cook something new, sometimes it goes wrong.. have fun with it and perfect it. That’s the fun in cooking
  • @MomberyMochi
a Japanese friend taught me to put a lil water beside the egg and put a steam dome over it while it cooks to get a perfect sunny side up or over easy egg depending on how long it's covered and it works perfect.

The breakfast one appeals to me most, but that’s because I like breakfast at any time of the day. I think I would prefer corn tortillas over flour tortillas for the ground beef, but I wouldn’t turn either one down😁. Thanks for sharing!
  • I appreciate you all because you all are representations of us and the world need to see it. I know alot of ppl is going to come for the guy on the end, but i respect his honesty and he in good company so he can and will grow in the right direction. Thank you all!

Denny's used to have a Baja Burger, ground beef, cheddar cheese, two flour tortillas, the chefs would whip it up in 3 minutes, this was like 2013-2014, I loved it, then they took it off the menu, but some locations will make it off-menu, you can also make 10 or so for under 5 bucks at home

When I was a child the mexican ladies that worked for my grandparents taught us to make tacos similarly. We use a corn tortilla, spread the meat over half of it and sprinkle some garlic salt. Then put it in about 1/8 " of hot oil and cook until nicely browned. then the cheese lettuce and salsa were added at the plate. I still make them like this and have been for the last 50 Years (I've been making them since I was 12) They are a family favorite.

RIP 🥚 lol one of the best aspects of your videos is that you leave mistakes like that in and it gives everyone a laugh. Lol love the ending 😂

We do smashed burger tacos and smashed breakfast tacos with spicy pork, scrambled eggs, diced bacon, cheese and sauce. we cook the patty first both sides and make sure they are the appropriate size by using the right amount of oz which is about 55 oz. comes out great everytime.
  • @kloqueman
Kudos for leaving in the things that were not perfect. Shows a 'true' cook if you ask me! Gonna try those Tacos for sure...maybe less oil for me.
  • @mikebowerstv
Man I’m a breakfast guy and will be trying this. One of the most enjoyable cooking videos I’ve seen in awhile.
  • The sausage one looks the best to me-but both look fantastic! I might even add re-fried beans as I love that on tostadas/tacos. Thanks for demonstrating this-fantastic job!
