I was BROKE! Because of my financial struggles, I became a minimalist in 2008. Living a minimalist lifestyle has taught me that living with less helps me save money. Being over 40 and just turning 50, I was getting close to retirement age and needed to increase the money saved. My husband and I decided to sell everything we owned and embark on living a nomadic lifestyle. A minimalist nomadic lifestyle is not easy. However, I save money for retirement and have found that living with less is a key to my happiness. Nomad life over 40, and extreme minimalism is the choice I’ve made to save money.

Money may not be everything. But life is pretty hard without it.
  • Please note that money is not evil. It is the love of money that is the root of all evil

True Wealth is freedom, "money is a tool to build the life you want" this mindset helped me to learn frugality, saving, budgeting and investing. I saved my first 100k from investing right now I'm retired 47 and living life on my own terms
  • My Mom used to say “ IF YOU CAN LIVE A SIMPLE LIFE…YOU ARE A RICH PERSON “ ..she is gone now this widowed at 24 yrs old single fiercely independent Italian speaking immigrant mother of three small children in Canada in 1959…… she never ever dated or went with another man because she said what your dad gave me in 7 years no man will give in a lifetime…a real resilient woman she was. Connie you are resilient like her. Grazie Milli Cara

I have naturally been frugal my entire life. Wasting money on "Stuff" has always felt ridiculous to me. Peace of mind is not having debt.

My husband and I decided to change our life by selling our house in Canada and becoming nomadic almost three years ago. We now own a small place in Mexico where we can live simply and a camper van in Canada to explore North America in summer. We also housesit and enjoy the adventures that brings as well. I have learned to need very little and am very, very happy with less.

I am now selling off all the "stuff" I have accumulated all my life, and it is helping me pay for the basics now, such as food and drink, and a roof over my head for me and my rescue greyhound Madge. I am so grateful for what I have. xxx

If we have nothing but peace we have everything ❤
  • I grew up poor. Not having enough to eat and go to a movie with a friend is life altering. You never completely get over it.

We sold our home and bought a 5th wheel RV . We traveled across our country and saw wondrous places that would not have been possible had we stayed in our house. Sometimes we work camped to ‘get ahead’. Our health and age (82 and 75) has stopped our traveling. We live near our children and still live in our RV. I’ve no desire for a house, but we are home

Living within your means gives a certain peace. Less is more.

I did this, enjoying the freedom and lack of responsibility, then I got diagnosed with cancer and that need for stability and security were overwhelming. To get a place and unravel my nomadic world took time and energy I didn't have. I have secured a tiny apartment and realise that truly life happens whilst we make other plans. A contingency is a must for such things always.

Money isn't the root of all evil but the Love of the money is.

I can empathize with the heavy feeling in the household, my parents were both unemployed at the same time. It was the late 1960's. Life was hard, but my parents just kept going. We had to eat stuff we didn't like, only had a few outfits, etc. etc. Eventually, my parents found work, and we moved to a less than desirable apartment that Mom and Dad kept spotless. I can only look back in admiration at their resilience. RIP Daddy.

As I watch this, I am picking up the last things from my apartment in Colorado. I am keeping the necessary items only and moving with a friend temporarily. I am not longer attracted to material stuff.

My wife and I have gone down a similar financial path you guys have. I retire in 2 months. We’re selling everything, including our house and moving on to our boat full time where we seem to be our happiest. I can not wait for this next chapter!
  • @lssmith1134
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the love of money, making it a god.
  • My husband and I are about to embark on the nomad life. He's retired 2 years now. And, we'd just like to spread our wings for a while. Our boys are grown and live their own adult lives, so we have nothing holding us back anymore.
