3 Month Update!    • How To Spray Paint Your Wheels the Ri...

IMPORTANT:
Materials used:
3M Final Stripping pad - amzn.to/2N2CilT
Rustoluem Black Spray Paint - amzn.to/2UAaoSe
Rustoleum Clearcoat - amzn.to/3hmvbSS

Steps:
1) Degrease/ wash entire wheel. Dry
2) Use scuffing pad on wheel surface to prepare for paint
3) Use damp towel to get rid of dust created by step 2 and dry again after
4) Mask off tire and valve stem
5) Shake paint for 1 minute
6) One light layer of your paint. Wait 15 minutes between layers
7) 2 more layers of your paint, getting heavier for each
8) 3 Layers of clear coat
9) Let dry for one hour

To be safe, I wouldn't use the wheel on the car for 48 hours.
Overall, I thought this was a great use of time and money, and I'd recommend anyone to follow the instructions in the video and give it a shot! I also think this is better than plastidip.

FAQ: Q:How’s it lasted? A:Here’s my 90 day update: https://youtu.be/-SeaY-nNW58 Q:Does this work on aluminum wheels? A:Yes, BUT swap out the paint. Dupli-Color has a paint that bonds better with aluminum. Any more questions, please leave a comment. And do your research please

For those that can’t take off the wheel. DO NOT GET PAINT ON YOUR BRAKE DISC OR BRAKE BLOCK. what I’ve done, grab a bunch of trash bags, scrunch them up and place them between the wheel and brake disc. And instead of using the color cards he uses to separate the rim from tire, I use scotch tape, can even use an ID card to wedge the scotch tape in.

In the middle of doing this, bought everything you got and prepped my wheels. Did all the layers now just waiting the hour (UPDATE) They look amazing, saved me so much money!
  • Idk if anyone else noticed, but the final product had a little bit of a gritty finish. There are a couple ways to minimize that. Don't do one light coat then two heavy coats. Maybe try more for like five light coats. Also, once your last coat of paint dries, you can lightly sand with high grit sandpaper (800 to 1000) then wipe down. Then do a few light coats of clear.

Thanks so much!!! I had a black Detective's Crown Vic that I've been doing a resto-mod on. I looked at a hundred rims online and nothing clicked with me. Today I painted the formerly black steel holed rims with Behr Soft Iron Satin Metallic. It came out GORGEOUS. Thank you so much!

Looks good and I like those wheels I had them on my old charger as well. Only things I would do different (and maybe overkill) would be after the scuff its best to use a wax/tar degreaser to make sure everything is off the wheels and then do a coat or 2 of primer before the paint.... Another good option to protect the tires is a deck of cards if you want want to rob the paint section at lowes lol. The 2 times I have painted wheels black I actually used high temp engine enamel paint, but I think any high quality enamel would be good.
  • Dude I just finished doing it to my car following every step and it looks completely amazing, thank you. Like well deserved

I just scratched my 20s on the curb just now and this is the first video I saw. I guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.
  • I did this on the rims of my crv and i didnt have to alter it in any way till nearly two years. for a cheap fix like this its totally worth it, if you like doing things yourself
  • Just used the same Rust-Oleum professional enamel semi-gloss on my wheels and it turned out really amazing. The prep work making sure everything is nice and clean and smooth is the key and if you know how to use rattle can spray paint take your time keep your distance don't rush it and it will look great. I've used different spray paints on wheels and I think this one did the best by far smooth and clean finished product this is great paint for wheels I won't use anything else after this
