For soldering really small stuff and if I dont have a good tip, I'll wrap some small copper wire around it and boom, you got a tiny tip.
  • The re-assembly shuffle is one of the oldest traditions in this specimen's culture. A fascinating display, perhaps for mating? Nature is truly beautiful.

Two rules of good soldering: 1. Get the flux where you want solder to be and ONLY there. 2. Bring THE PART to the solder melting temperature. If only it was as easy to do as to say.

Ah Yes, the famous how did it happen. I was a listener, to a tale about a #4 Stat Eng. He was working on 600v and all the devices in the shop were knackered. So - a Maint Foreman was asked if he had a device. He did have a device, something he had bought back when boards were made in Red Sun. Well - a day later - the Volt measuring device, showed up on the gent shop desk, at lunch time. No thanks, no nuthin. He went to use it- a week later - cue the splausible denying here, and found she had no life. Ok - Battery dead. Pops it open and changes it - no lights. He had repaired it once or twice - over the 25 years, so no biggy. As he pops her open, well - she had been gutted. The fuses were popped and a couple diodes fried, BUT - It appeared that someone had hooked it to 600v - and then spun the dial - as the weld marks ran in one direction. And to boot, neither the Engineer or the GM would replace the tool because it was personal, not something the Corp bought. We saluted the device as it was laid to rest - and hung two wreaths as well. One was Ethics and the other Morals and buried all 3 in the same grave. Cheers

Back to the shop, love it! And polka to boot!

I have just discovered a use for that expensive CNC mill you bought. Brass knobs for the discriminating Fluke user.

Your vids always make me laugh the whole time! Thank you
  • The effort involved in making one of your videos alone i applaud you for. I enjoy your channel so much.

DewClaw: "Hmm I wonder how this achieves its detented selection function. . ." - pulls selector knob off BOING! TICK Tick tick. . . "oops", puts selector knob back on, sets it down and slinks away

nice solder flow. reminded me of Navy fire controlman school - "flux is your friend"

Timing couldn't be better. The boss's wife gave me her factory Hyundai amp to see if i can fix it. I took it A-part and found a shit stain on the board. Looks like I have to do the exact same thing with a few resistors. Thanks so much for all your vids, you're a god among men !!

I love my ancient Fluke 83 gen1, built in 1993. Went to use it a month ago and the display wouldn't chooch. A quick search indicated two strips under the display were the problem. Cleaned everything with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol.... BOOM.... Bob's your uncle. My old girl is back. I'll give credit where it's due. Watching your videos inspired me to take the plunge and try to repair it myself. Thank you! Gotta love old equipment that is actually repairable. Thanks for another video!

You go blaming dewclaw with no proof. You never know, it could have been in the middle of the night, in the middle of a elechicken project, and all of a sudden, unheard by the members of the household, a "whoopsie doodle" could have sounded.

I’ve been subbed to this channel for years now, I occasionally watch a vid and every time I love it, the only YouTuber I want to meet in person

I used to fix mechanical watches and collected quite an array of lovely vintage tools for small work. Bit of sticky goop, some safety glasses, and a nice loupe makes a good rig for soldering small parts.
