Jesus as Our Sabbath Rest

Publicado 2024-03-21
In a recent episode of our Bible study series on Hebrews, we covered the idea of Jesus as our Sabbath rest. And it’s stirred up a bit of controversy and a lot of questions, so I wanted to release this stand-alone video that focuses solely on that aspect of Hebrews 4. Because when we understand this idea of Jesus being our ultimate rest, and how that fits into God’s overarching grand story of redemption, it helps us grasp a little more of how gracious God is for doing it this way, and the astounding significance of the work of Christ on our behalf.

Hallelujah! Being surrendered to Jesus Christ and abiding in him has given me rest and peace which passes understanding ❤ If I were not resting in Jesus Christ right now, in this crumbling world, I would be in distress and depressed.

Wonderful study...It's been a wild ride coming from a Catholic background struggling to keep the heavy burden of the weekly confessions before a priest and knowing deep in my soul that something was very very wrong with that system..but GOD...someone at my work, years ago planted the seed of the gospel. It's taken a long time, but now the veil has been lifted and I have entered that rest that can only come from believing God's grace...the UNMERITED beautiful glorious gospel...I live every day in humble thanksgiving for what He has done for me...There is no power in law keeping...The true power is by faith in the one who started the good work in us and is faithful to finish the work...We are like clay in the potters hand..allowing His Holy Spirit to guide and lead us as we sojourn through this physical life into everlasting life through the promise that he gives us.

There remains yet another rests, that is the rest in heaven, now we accept Jesus we have eternal life,1 John 5:11,12. But the rest is yet to be given to those who ovwrcometh. So when Jesus comes the 2and time he will usher in the rest that remains.

What a beautiful message about Jesus being our Sabbath rest. When I had learned about this upon leaving Adventism, I was moved. It was like discovering a missing piece to a puzzle. Everything then clicked and started to make sense.
  • Thank you for this explanation of Hebrews 3&4 pointing to the true Sabbath rest, Jesus Christ. .🙏🕊️❤️

Excellent message. One point that SDAs make to justify sabbath keeping is - they do not keep the sabbath to be justified, but they will lose their justification by not keeping it - and fail to understand it is the same thing.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matt 11:28-30 Jesus is our rest, not the Sabbath. Jesus gives us rest against all "religion" and showed us that it is about the heart and not the rules.

Wow.. that was the most powerful and simplistic gospel message I've ever heard. So many truths so well explained In such short time. Now I fully understand what Paul meant in his letter to the Colossians church, when he said "we are complete in Christ" Col 2:10

Nice explanation of the Sabbath and its purpose and foreshadowing of that which is to come. We also have rested from our works, trying to be obedient to the law. We esteem everyday a rest, not just one day a week. Hallelujah, praise be to our Father, Who has offered a rest to us, to cease from our works! Hebrews 4: 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His. Roman’s 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. Colossians 2: 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Mark 2: 27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. God bless you and yours! Thank you for teaching and encouraging all! ✝️🙏🏼💟

Due to illness, I will have to pull away from watching or commenting. I will miss you Professor Solberg. Thank you for your great teaching. We suffer just like Christ suffered for us. Life here is pain but the life to come will be pure joy and that is my hope along with seeing my spouse again, the only one I have ever loved. No more crying myself to sleep.

I’m not the best Christian and I know it. But I figured out a long time ago that Christ was the sabbath , by reading John 4:23.
