Wilesco D 36 Steam Roller "Old Smoky"

This Wilesco D 36 Steam Roller "Old Smoky" is about 35 years old and still working fine! The only problem is, that the steam regulator valve is a bit too loose and sometimes closes itself.

The steam is produced by an "Esbit" fire.

So let's play with this thing!

You are meant to have two layers of fuel blocks, the bottom layer flat and the top layer on their side. This makes them produce more heat, longer running and easier to light.

Well, you don't see such a toy every day. I think, this is one of those that Karlsson On The Roof had. If I remember correctly, he had thousands of them, but they exploded.

You could mount alot of RC stuff under that hood.. Turning , Whistle , and Throttle R/C controlled, but still steam powered..

I too own a d365 and it was my first steam model ever. I like it a lot and converted it to butane firing because I don´t like the smelly and poisonous esbit fuel tablets . Otherwise I kept the engine completely stock and run her with the optional cable steering device. She reminds me a lot of BETSY, the famous Roller owned by the Dibnah Family
