In the past few years, Walt Disney has fallen in love with the idea of churning out live-action remakes and spinoffs of their beloved animated classics. Movies like Mulan, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Aladdin and more have all gotten the live-action. Now, it’s the turn of 101 Dalmatians. Kind of.

Cruella definitely raises some questions. Like how do you make a villain known for wanting to skin dogs engaging as a protagonist? What’s up with all the music? How did Cruella set up that parachute? Did we really need know the origin of her name? Are Pongo and Perdita brother and sister? Why did she give people dogs? Is it even possible for Emma Stone’s Cruella to turn into the Cruella De Ville that people know? If not, why is this a thing?

To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Disney’s Cruella! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

    - "but Cruella is a legitimately evil person, no one will like her" - "if we make her attractive with good fashion sense people will just say she's sassy"
  • Looking forward to the Bambi remake where it's revealed the hunter's daughter died in a car crash that was caused by Bambi's mom running into the road.

Waiting for Anakin’s origin story where it’s revealed that the reason he hates sand is because his mom was murdered by Sand Peop- wait a minute.

Next, they're gonna have a Smaug origin story, where we see that he was saving that gold for his mother's operation.

I cannot think of a better way to summarise the insanity of Modern Disney than: "Dalmatians killed Cruella De Vill's mother."

I wonder if when Ryan watches movies he instinctively thinks as the scene happens: “there it is, that’s my ‘actually it’s going to be super easy, barely an inconvenience’”.

Dalmatians: exist Cruella: "Hello, my name is Cruella de Vil. You killed my mother, prepare to die!"

Screenwriter guy’s backstory is that a bunch of legitimately good screenwriters pushed screenwriter guy’s mom off a cliff
  • In the original book, 101 Dalmatians, Cruella was given an origin story. She was the last member of an extremely eccentric aristocratic family and she met Pongo and Perdita's owners in school. her hair was originally black and green, and she was the popular kid in school. An unnamed family tragedy happened, and her green hair turned white from the shock. Her Dad died of health problems, and her mom committed suicide, I think. Also, in the book, Cruella de Vil was her birth name and she had very poor taste in both clothes and furniture.
  • skinning puppies? "ok" smoking trademark cigarettes? "thats just plain disgusting."

Thanos Origin: His Mom was killed by scales after losing her balance
  • If there's ever an Ursla origin movie, it's gonna be about her mother being killed by a pair of legs.
  • I like how the writers decided that they needed to explain how she got her name, but not how she got her freakishly unnatural hair color.
  • The plot is so painful to hear. He's not even making fun of it. He's just straight up narrating the story hahaha
  • @TheSilverOrn
Remember when Cruella wanted to skin dalmations because she had just about every other fur jacket she could think of? IF you do then you know more about the character than the director and writer did.
  • @iroccata
How does the baroness doesn't recognize her employee? Her hair is different now It worked for Superman, makes sense.

"Ah so my mom was kicked by a Dalmatian at THIS party" really drives home how silly this whole plot is
