As a senior at UCLA, I can say that this is spot on. Sucks that we can't enjoy it now during covid. Stay Healthy and Safe everyone! I miss campus so much, it was nice to see it again

I graduated 2005 and I just LOVE what they have done with the dorm food options. It was good then but now it is on a resort level. I also can't believe how much has been built or remodeled, I bet if I took a tour it would be like a completely different school

I lived at Rieber Hall during my freshman and sophomore years at UCLA in the late 80s. We didn’t have food options like this. If anything, it left a lot to be desired. I am so jealous!

as a recent commit this was super helpful for me!! can't wait to stuff my face lol
  • I lived in Dykstra Hall during the 1970s. All the other dorms (Reiber, Hedrick) served the same food. Food was overall pretty good but was cafeteria style with a few entries every meal, sides, salad bar, soup bar and desert bar. It was all you can eat. Entries rotated every few weeks and was basically traditional America food like meat loaf, pork chops (they were very tasty), Thanksgiving turkey with the trimmings, fried chicken, beef stew, chicken pot pies, white fish, tuna casserole, etc. They often had Italian entrees like lasagna, ravioli, backed macaroni. But once a week or so they served real steak and prime rib which was always a treat. Lunch time you could get burgers from the grill, fries along with the entrees. There was also a pasta bar but the sauces were limited to Mariana and Alfredo. And you can get slices of pizza for lunch or dinner. Don’t recall Asian food unless you count pepper steak over white rice. I think they served some Mexican but I wasn’t a big fan of it. Desert had tasty pies, cakes and a soft serve ice cream machine to make your own sundaes. Use to eat this ice cream just about daily. They also had self serve soda, milk, coffee and juice machines. Breakfast was traditional American and I remember a few friends that would only get about 10 slices of bacon. If you didn’t want to return to the dorm for lunch you could pick up a brown bag lunch in the morning consisting of a basic sandwich, fruit, bag of chips and a carton of milk or juice. Dorm cafeteria closed around 730 or 8 so late night food was limited to vending machines. We did have microwave ovens so burritos and awful tasting burgers and pizza could be nuked. I never did starve and enjoyed most of the food.
  • Dang! I graduated in 96. I know that was a looong time ago but dang! You weren't even born yet. The dining situation has improved big time! Cool Video! I love UCLA:)

Ah, I miss UCLA food already. It's 4 am and I'm hungry again lol. Just going to put some of my tibbits to add on to yours: You forgot the omlette lines omg. I miss Covel and BPlate omlette so much. If you go to De Neve's breakfast, they serve RICE that you can eat with your omelette. Covel's pancakes are also really good imo. Feast is pretty good, but I personally tend to stay away from my country's food. I know a lot of people who like it, but as someone who grew up on them, it kind of disappoints. :( For a lot of the food though, you'd see people go and take seconds... And thirds... And fourths... All the time. It's kind of funny seeing people just automatically loop back in line after getting out of it. Covel is safe. This is the dining hall I went to the most due to the proximity to my dorm. I found that as midterms and finals close in, you care less about where you go and more of which one is closer lol. If you go to or ever visit, please don't use the trays. They'll also need to be washed and we need to conserve all the water we can get in drought riddened CA. On the unlikely but hopeful chance we meet, I'll be sure to say hi! You seem like a cool person to talk to. :3

Thanks for making this video! I got accepted last week, and I’m still deciding where to go... How was your freshman experience at UCLA?
  • @MadiIgnacia
UCLA is my dream school. I am transferring hopefully. If they let me in.
  • B plate is about making one unhealthy. I use to get bad periods when I tried going vegan for several years. Then I started to eat meat and my problems disappeared. My doctor asked what changed? I said I began to eat meat and dairy again.
