Why Is Chicago's Gun Crime So High? | Reggie Yates: Life And Death In Chicago

Publicado 2021-12-15
Against the backdrop of unprecedented gun violence, Reggie Yates travels to Chicago to investigate gun crime in President Obama's adopted hometown.
In 2015, there were 468 murders, and the murder rate has increased by 72%. Who is to blame when many of the victims are young African-American men?
Reggie learns firsthand about police brutality, but after witnessing the aftermath of a gunshot and the funeral of a young black guy, he realises that the majority of homicides are committed by young black males who live in Chicago's poorest neighbourhoods.

Take responsibility for yourself. As long as you blame someone else nothing can change, The government is not coming to save you.

Man this is deep, prayers for all of the families who lost a loved one.

It's funny there against the police but not against the gangs drug dealers and pimps.

I lost my oldest son to gun violence, and he wasn't in a gang he worked, went to College and was transferring to another college to play basketball.... I have marched, protested and intend to write about this senseless violence plaguing our cities... I'm not in Chicago, I'm in Los Angeles and the murders in the ghetto aren't sensational so they remain as my son's case unsolved after 18 years and the murders are not not mentioned on television.... this is America????

If you police your own, your issues are less with the actual police. These communities are out of control because of the people that live in hood. You cannot expect outsiders to treat you better than insiders. Inside is where the main issues lie. You must look in the mirror. You must hold each other accountable.

At the funeral, I understand, but the hands don't make you tough either!! Having the wisdom to walk away is a true test of strength!!
  • As a mom of two young children one is a boy I think it's best for us mothers to leave these troubled cities. I lived in North Miami where there is a lot of crime, and my hubby and I decided we wanted better for our children and went elsewhere. We couldn't be happier!

As somebody who lives in Chicago I can tell for a fact the reason the murder rate is so high is because of the gangs. Chicago has hundreds of gangs more than other cities and it’s partly due to the segregation of the city as well. This subconsciously pins groups of people against each other and creates constant tension

I love how Reggie tells both sides, and sees both sides…. He’s incredibly respectful. Love his videos…

This was one of the most touching videos Reggie. You are so humane in how you tell people's stories. Thank you.

Born and raised in La Villita, Chicago IL. Documentary was as legit as it can be out here in these Chicago streets. Just last weekend an 8 y.o babygirl was shot and killed due to gun violence. Plain daylight. Sad to see some won’t be able to make it and experience how life is.
  • Support the traditional family with both parents, stop the worship of the gang culture, get rid of corrupt politicians, bring manufacturing jobs back, stop the welfare state and you will see this problem end.
  • 49:01 “do it for my ki- …… I don’t have any kids” That made he burst out crying, genuenly, i can’t hold back the tears, I can’t imagine his pain.
  • @celenarucker8914
This is just so SAD!!! My heart aches for this generation. These kids are a product of their environment.
  • @tosin_davidson
So sad seeing old men carrying the casket of young boys...

Yes there are people dying on both sides, but the annoying part is being told not to discuss anything regarding police brutality if you would be allowed to cover/interview them, but rather talk about their side alone. I think both sides should be discussed and not just a side.
