I love how at this point the Death Egg Robot is just its own separate character.

I like to imagine the Death Egg Robot somehow gained an independent AI and then and there decided to defy Eggman and do whatever it wants, whether it be explore the different zones Sonic ventured through or testing itself against its creator’s other weapons.
