Kvas is THE iconic Russian drink (next to vodka). This smooth, fermented drink is usually made from rye bread but may also have additional flavors added along the way. It is naturally carbonated and has a smooth taste - a little sweet and a little sour.

In Russia you can buy kvas (kbac) from grocery stores, street vendors, vending machines, and more.

Come along as Phil tries out Kvas Nikola, an authentic Russian kvas, and compares it to Soft Drink Kvas from Canada.

Na zodorivye!

Thanks to Diana Deli for having such a great assortment of foods for us to try!

(I received no promotional consideration for this video)

Also Kvas is healthier than Coke. It has no ingridients that can harm your stomach like those in Coke. And homemade Kvas is healthier + cheaper than bottled.

Kvass now is easily available if you live in or near a major city. Just go to a Russian/Ukrainian store

That All Stars brand is live which is why it’s always in the cooler. If you leave it out it’ll go vinegar. Great stuff. I thirst after Kvass like no other. I can just drink and drink and drink it. I just recently started making my own, still have more dialing in to do until it’s as grossly refreshing as the store stuff but I’m committed. The store bought stuff is like everything I always wanted coke to be

I always have the second one. I describe it like a coke and beer mix. Actually Iam drinking it now lol.

Normal Kvass does not have citric acid or like half the stuff that was in the first one you tried. normal fully Russian kvass has Rye bread, Rasins, sugar, water, and normal yeast. This is coming from a Russian Btw, i make Kvass regularly

Tried a Kvas today for the first time while I was real thirsty. I loved the drink.

Kvass, Russian for preventive penicillin. Kvass sold in stores is non-alcoholic at least in the legal sense. If you mix water, sugar and yeast and time you'll have alcohol. Speaking in general terms.

I first drunk this when I was 6 and I still love it

I used to make my own. The non alcoholic part is a bit disingenuous IMO. Anything that has yeast, does have at least some alcohol in it. It gets more tart as it becomes more alcoholic until the alcohol kills off the yeast. In theory, depending on the yeast used, you can get your kvass to about 40 proof 😉 Good stuff 😉
  • Kvass is used as a base when making Okroshka which is a cold soup consumed during the hot summer months and it is delicious..😛👍
