I welcome Sam Amick of The Athletic — the first two-time guest of the show! — to discuss his reporting on Tuesday about LeBron James and Anthony Davis wanting the Los Angeles Lakers to go all-in for "another elite player."

Sam and I discuss his story, LeBron’s longstanding desire for a third star, AD wielding his power more recently, players that qualify as upgrades in LeBron and AD's eyes, Austin Reaves, the Lakers’ read on their roster, the potential outcomes if the Lakers stand pat, and more.

Read Sam’s story here: www.nytimes.com/athletic/5588906/2024/06/25/lakers…

All stars LeBron & AD: We want a competent roster. Laker fans: We want to rebuild around JHS and be the pistons for the next 20 years.

I wish Pelinka, JJ, Lebron & AD the best this off season to move this team in a positive direction. Staying stagnant is not an option. Hit your target goals, get better all around and see where the chips fall. 💜💛💜💛💜💛

It seems to me that the idea of Lebron and AD want the Lakers to go all-in is more an opinion of Sam Amick than a fact.

If AD and LBJ need more talent and want to win now…..they need to take a pay cut which will allow lakers to add talent and not gamble on minimum deals

We win if Deadbeat Dlo didn't miss all his shots.
  • Lauri from jazz. He only makes 18 million. U can get guards. Lonnie walker etc. But if u can get off gabe money call kelly oubre the first second. Austin,Oubre, lauri,Bron,Ad.
  • Intelligent conversation and perspective. Well said. Thank you.

It totally contradicts what JJ and Rob were saying yesterday.......Unless we're talking about a Mikal Bridges or Murray whose contracts are reasonable.

The problem we have is simple,we are a awful team without LBJ who probably go out as the greatest player ever, but he is going to be 40 years old this coming season and his body will have 22 seasons in the league. We need to construct the team thinking that LBJ cannot carry us forever and we should have a team that can hold their on when Lebron is resting or having a day off,and untill now it hasn't happened

Dlo was clearly the 3rd best player this past season and it wasn't even close and he played like ass in the RECENT playoffs.

Healthy Vando will make a huge difference. He’s a menace defensively. JJ actually knowing how to use Rui & Reaves. Darvin forced this team to play at such a deficit. I have a feeling Vando & Gabe are extremely useful next year. I wouldn’t trade Rui & Austin unless you’re getting Donovan or someone. It’s not worth it. I think the team is in a decent spot. Just need Max Christie to take a huge leap … & hopefully they struck gold today with the draft

Lauri Markhannen followed by Paul George should be out top targets. Very different players but very versatile and give Bron the freedom to run offense without needing to rebound or guard wings. There’s quality guards that can be had for cheap, but quality big men should be a priority. Valanciunes, Lopez, Jakob Poetl are trees that lock the paint down for when Bron gets beat of defense during the szn. Bron is our Doncic and ad wants to play the 4 anyway.
  • Austin won’t be an All Star. Think about the West. Curry, Morant, Shai, Antman, Booker, Kyrie, Fox just a few guards in the West ahead of him.

Here is a thought and you can answer if you think the Lakers would do it or the Hawks… Lakers want to move up and the Hawks want to move down I hear it or at least considering it… A trade where AR/JHS and whatever salary filler whether it be Gabe … Whoever… + the 19 pick, another first round pick for DMurray and the number one pick…Is that something that would be considered if the Lakers include AR rather than a DLo or Rui???

Going forward for D. Murray or C. Sexton is an upgrade over D. Russel. Jeremi Grant is an upgrade over Rui Hachimura though Rui is young but Lakers is in win now mode as Lebron career maybe ending in a year or two. Lakers needs an upgrade for Gabe and Vando as both failed to make an impact 2023-24 season. Maybe another Center and 3D player can help. Jalen Smith or or Wendell Andre Carter Jr. or Jonas. V or Nicolas Claxton can be good center option out there. Jalen Smith also is a good 3 point shooter and young too like M. Turner. Regarding 3D, Gary Trent Jr or or Gary Harris or Torry Craig or De'Anthony Melton or Royce O'Neale or Caleb Martin or Derrick Jones Jr . Backup Center should be Luke Kornet who has playoff experience and backup 3D should be Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk or Eric Gordon.
  • Bron is not going anywhere. Lakers not trading for someone that will hardcap the team. Zach Lavine is not becoming a laker. Lakers will get someone that is available if possible. There are other teams that want some of the good players.
