2010,2011,2012,2013,2014,2015,2016, Hyundai Santa Fe Engine / Head damage

Publicado 2019-01-28
This 2.4 Engine with just over 100,000 miles has major damage from a failed camshaft in the cylinder head of this DOHC. Show and Tell for educational purposes, "not a how to do it" Also has codes code P006 For the intake runner (We found this was broken internally and not working)
P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0106 MAP/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range Problem
P0135 Oxygen Sensor heater circuit Malfunction
P0030 HO2S Heater Control Circuit B1S1
Low Engine compression we found cylinder number 1 to have 150 PSI and number 2 to have 150 Psi but number 3 had only 40 Psi and number 4 had 0. So we went after a mechanical issue and the easiest step was to pull the valve cover and the broken intake camshaft is what we found. Really looks like it stopped oiling first and then broke.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited AWD with the 3.3L, 120k miles. It now has a fist sized hole in the bottom of the engine case where it threw something out while traveling 70mph on I-10. Always serviced with Mobile 1 and Wix filters. I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 220k miles on it and its still running like a top. Hyundai says I didn’t service the oil properly, I say they’re full of crap and there is something wrong with these motors. They lost a lifetime customer and I was getting ready to buy my 3rd.

Not sure if this applies, but there was a huge recall on hyundai 2.4s for having metal shavings left in the engine at the factory. These would cause all sorts of issues, like clogging up passageways and wearing out the main bearings. Not sure if this particular failure was caused by that, but interesting nonetheless

Which Santa Fe engine is safe, free of problems as serious as this?

it stopped oiling because of metal shavings plugging up the passageways

That engine is grenaded. Even if you did fix it, it has way too many variables still in play. Trash the whole engine. With that much metal damage (Think metal shavings running through the whole system) I wouldn't trust a single piece of the whole thing.

I would never consider a Hyundai or KIA. I dont trust them. Was in a 4 year old one with 50k miles and it was a rattle trap
