This reading and writing lesson is one part of our complete Persian language course. Lessons 1-25 of reading and writing are available on our website (www.chaiandconversation.com/read-write-persian). By the end of the course, you will be able to read and write in the Persian language. We also have over 80 lessons that teach you conversational Persian (www.chaiandconversation.com/lessons). In those lessons, we use phonetic English spelling, so you don't have to be able to read and write Persian before learning to speak it conversationally!

In this introductory Persian reading and writing lesson, we go over the Persian alphabet and what makes it unique. For instance, you may know that there are 32 letters in the Persian alphabet, but did you know that 4 of those letters exist in Persian ONLY, and don't appear in any other language alphabet? We'll also go over the 6 vowels of the Persian language. While 3 of those vowels appear as letters of the alphabet, 3 others are simply accents. When you're first learning to read and write Persian, the accents will be provided for you. However, as you become more familiar with written Persian, accents will no longer be provided- you will have to 'guess' which accents are associated with the letters based on the context of the word.

Not to interfere but I think you need to have be writing on a line at this stage. I can imagine many foreigners getting confused where the base line is and where the letters should be in relation to it

ok so I binged the first 10 lessons in one afternoon, writing along the whole time. I'm absolutely blown away by how much I already can read and write after just these few hours. it feels amazing, I can't get enough! kheili mamnoon!

My wife is Persian and her parents and I sometimes struggle to speak. I found your channel wanting to learn Persian to better communicate with my wife’s family AND when we have kids be able to help pass the culture into them… won’t hurt being able to talk about stuff in front of others without them knowing what we are talking about!

I started learning Farsi one month ago, and i was so stressed because i did not found a really compelling method for some time. But your guide with the guide created by the University of Austin are some of the best guides out there to learn farsi. Thank you, thank you very much!
  • I'm Persian and my American boyfriend found this, I've been sitting and watching it from the very beginning till the end and I just can't get enough of it. It's everything I wish my first grade teacher had taught me

This is how I quickly learned how to read Japanese. First I learned the main vowels, and after that it was a breeze repeating all the consonants with the vowels. I wish you had a workbook or something. Repetition is key to retaining the information. Repeat, the vowels until you have memorized them. Then repeat them with consonants aleph be or de and so on. I am Persian and Farsi was my first language, but I never learned how to read it or write it, and it is so mind-boggling now because on one hand, I am so familiar with the language on the other hand learning to read it feels like I am learning an alien language. It makes my brain hurt.😊
  • Wow! I really am drawn to your teaching style. You make it so exciting and easy to understand! I think I will binge-watch each of these lessons 🤣🤣 Please make more videos, I really enjoy them! :D

I've also married an Iranian. She can speak Persian but not like her parents. My wife was born in Iran but moved to Germany when she was 1-2 yrs old. Unfortunately, she can't help me with the alphabet because she can't read or write nor does she know the alphabet. I've decided recently to learn to read, write and speak but it's rather difficult to learn the alphabet and then the medial and the final form. To say in short, I'm heading a hard time right now.
